SMEAR .. please can someone educate on this .
Iv just booked my smear again after putting it off for ages , I’m 25 so couple month over due . My question is , if iv had gental herpes in the past , strain of hpv. Does this actually mean I will have an abnormal result ? Hpv positive result ? Or does it have to be active ? From my understanding herpes is a life long infection but obviously can go undetected and isn’t always active. Would this effect my smear results as iv had herpes in the past ? Cos now I feel like I’d be hpv positive no matter what ! As iv had it around 5 years ago

Hi, herpes is not a strain of HPV. It's a strain of HSV. Totally different virus so it shouldn't affect your smear.

HPV = human papilloma virus

HSV = herpes simplex virus
