Nitrofurantoin Terrible reaction

Hi there, I was experiencing some uti symptoms at the end of last week and used the boots pharmacy service ( impossible to get gp appointment) and was prescribed a 3 day course of Nitrofurantoin . I took it and within a day started feeling really nauseous and low energy but thought maybe I had a tummy bug .the nausea has got worse and worse and last night my heart was racing and I felt really dizzy and disoriented ( felt like I was falling whenever I lay down ) That’s eased slightly but I still feel really sick and quite woozy and not myself at all , Has anyone experienced something similar and if so when did it ease? I stopped taking it yesterday morning as felt like it wasn’t agreeing with me .

Could it be the uti itself making you feel like this? U could go to a&e if cant get gp appointment, utis can be horrible if left untreated

Side effects of that drug treatment includes nausea and dizziness. A leaflet detailing potential side effects should have been included with this medication

Ive had a bad reaction to antibiotics before, not nitro though it was clarithromycin. If its not agreeing with you, stop taking it. If the uti symptoms reappear inform the doctor that you cant take it so they give you something else.

Thanks for your advise! Ended up speaking to gp who said since uti symptoms had gone it was likely to be a bad reaction to the medication. I’ve since seen lots of people online who have had similar reactions. It was actually really scary I was hallucinating and felt quite terrified like I was having a breakdown, anyway it’s on my notes not to have it again! Still quite tired and nauseous almost a week later 😬
