Could this be melanoma?

Hi everyone...
I'm new to this site but just wondered if anyone could help?
I know it could be anything but my partner spotted this on my back last night, I don't know how long it's been there, I cannot reach it and can't really see it unless through a camera on a phone... It's smooth feels apparently but raised. It's quite small. I've booked a drs appt but that's not for 10 days so I'm not sure if I should be pushing for an appointment sooner?.
Does this look like melanoma? Or could it be something else?

You've done the right thing booking an appointment, did your GP ask for a photo? If not I'd get one sent over and see if they think it's more urgent. Could be a dark cherry angioma.

endofthelinefinally · 01/07/2024 11:25

I would definitely send that photo over today. There is every chance they will find you an appointment sooner.

Is it red? Could be this:

Thanks. I rang to ask for a sooner appt but they've booked me in with a GP who specialises in dermatology so will be best to deal with It and know what it is... They've said that's the earliest appt they can fit me in..so I'm going to sit and worry now for the next 10 days. Loads of people I've shown have said it looks worrying!

It's a little red around the outside but otherwise it's black.

Try not to worry too much, easier said than done. I was on a 2 week dermatology referral earlier this year and worried sick, got there and the consultant put my mind at ease straight away. I read up A LOT beforehand, dont do it. But what I did read was that anything under 6mm isn't a major cause for concern. If this is tiny try and keep that in mind whilst you are waiting. Wishing you well ❤️‍🩹

Did you tell them you are worried it is a melanoma? You don’t need a GP with a speciality in dermatology, any GP can look at that an make a referral. I’d get back to them in your position.

Swollenandgrouchy · 01/07/2024 18:04

I think you need to push to be seen tomorrow.

FloofPaws · 01/07/2024 18:13

Take another photo with a ruler next to it so you can measure it now and in 10 days. I take it you've had a shower to make sure it's not dried blood?
Honestly, I'd want it seen sooner, so you have a dermatology clinic near you? Often you can see someone albeit you'll need to pay
Where are you in the country?

AbraAbraCadabra · 01/07/2024 20:25

Yes you need to push to get that seen as early as possible by anyone. It doesn't need a GP they specialises. If they decide it's worrying you'll need to be referred to dermatology for a two week appt. The GP is just the route to access that. So you could be waiting nearly a month overall if you wait for the GP appt in 10 days.

AbraAbraCadabra · 01/07/2024 20:26

*that

Naomi2b89 · 01/07/2024 20:33

Thanks everyone. I have had a shower. It isn't dried blood. My partner felt it and it's smooth. I'll get him to hold a ruler to it and take a pic as I can't reach it or even feel it. I'll try the GP again tomorrow. I even asked the receptionist today if a gp could just look at the picture and tell me if it's concerning. Has anyone had anything like this before? I googled and it's terrified me.

So that looks to me like a blood blister(s) that's starting to go away hence the change of shape.

Obviously though you should see a doctor though.

If it helps, we have a ton of melanoma in our benighted pale skinned family, and some which didn't look as you would expect, but while you definitely want them looked at, 2 weeks is ok for a delay. Keep taking regular pics with the ruler for scale.

Do you think it's appeared suddenly in that your partner hadn't noticed it before? That would make blood blister/angioma even more likely. I have loads and they just appear out of nowhere. Most are bright red but they can be very dark.

I don't know how long it's been there. It just happened that my partner thought I had sunburn so took a picture which was when he noticed it... He wiped it with a wet wipe today but there wasn't any blood on it and he said it feels like a mole. I can't reach it to feel it so I don't know. I'll get it checked anyway, but sometimes feel a bit silly if it is just a cluster of blood blisters.

Don't ever feel silly getting your skin checked. It's so important if you're not sure.

The doctor will be glad to put your mind at rest if it's nothing to worry about, or get you referred on and have it whipped off if they're not sure.
