IUD

Hi all

I have a polyp and multiple fibroids so my gynae has said he's going to give me a general anaesthetic to remove polyp and one of the troublesome fibroids and he suggested he also fit a merina coil at the same time.

The problem is I suffer from vaginismus and smear tests are doable but very very tricky. I explained this and he said obviously the putting in will be fine as I'll be asleep, but then I think what about when it needs changing?! He said they last for 5 years so I'd probably need it changing once before menopause (I'm 42).

Has anyone managed to have an IUD in and out with vaginismus?

You could have it changed under GA

5 years is a long time dont stress yourself from now, and some women say they dont feel much when they have it inserted. You know in these forums people commenting are mostly the ones with the problems, others dont look for answers online cause they dont have problems. Does it make sense x

Yes thank you both, like you say 5 years is a long time, and I could always request a general anaesthetic to change it if necessary x

Hiya, I'm back! Can I ask another question pls? Something I just thought of yesterday!

Years ago, maybe 20 years ago, before kids, I was put on the progesterone only pill (mini pill) due to the normal pill causing migraines. I only took it two weeks and it turned me into a nutcase. The day I said to my husband I was leaving him he said come off that pill and see how you feel and by the next day I was back to normal.

Would the merina coil do similar? I haven't even thought of that!
