Hi everyone. So I’m thinking about ringing the doctors because I’ve had 3 periods with only a 20 day cycle length. I had one period where is was 37 days, normally I’m 26 days then after being a week late my last 3 have only had 20/21 day cycle. I’m 37 year old and just wondering if anyone else has had this happen? I’m now around the 18 days now so was waiting to see if I have another short length cycle and if I do will ring the doctors for advice but just thought I’d see if anyone else has had this and what caused it. Thank you in advance.

I know this can happen if you're heading into perimenopause but I guess you are on the younger end for that. Might be worth a call if your next cycle is shorter?

@seaduck this is what I’m thinking as my mum and nan were both young when they started but they were early 40s. So I thought I had a while yet. Going to ring the docs tomorrow and see what they think. Thank you for your reply x

Mine have been like this for the past few years, but I am 44.
the cycles have been getting shorter but the periods heavier and longer, and ridiculously painful. I’ve just been started on Qlaira to control this a bit.

@duende sorry to hear that, hope the medication helps.
my cycles are getting shorter but my period length has also shortened from 5 days to 3 days. Will rings the doctors tomorrow for some advice and maybe they will do bloods etc

Sadly yes a sign of peri. I started thinking I was there possibly in my late 30’s sadly no one would listen telling me not to worry until I was nearer 50 couldn’t possibly be they’d say. Took a private scan for something else after a coil was fitted, just by chance they said they saw evidence of it in an ovary they found which then explained a lot. I was utterly relieved in a way, I did not expect periods that started age 10 to be magnificent at 50. I had no idea I need not wait for the nhs blood test only allowable at 45.

A coil fitted by the nhs has given me back a regular cycle lasting 7 to 9 days (before I was lucky to get half day and nothing about cycle was predictable) periods were all over the place but at 42 I personally can’t see the point in getting them back but I suppose I live in ‘silly suffolk’ for a reason. To be frank I found gynae as an alleged meno expert very depressing about it.
