Bleeding on mirena

JVMorgan · 12/06/2024 19:37

Had mirena coil fitted 4 weeks ago after many years on the mini pill. Usually have no bleeding at all on the pill, but have had spotting for last 4 weeks on mirena, and yesterday started what looks to be a full period.

Has anyone else experienced periods on the coil but not on the mini pill? Or will the periods be likely to stop again on the mirena coil?

I had been bleeding for about 3 months after Mirena fitted then spotting for another 6 months or so. They have just added utrogestan tablets 100mg daily which seems to have knocked it on the head thankfully.

Generally they do say you could bleed for about 6 months

The gynaecologist could not say when I’d stop bleeding. They were not even confident whether they fitted an 8 year or 4 year one.

He just referenced it to a teenager. Great if you don’t have one.

If GP’s are paid to install coils then how is a hospital any different.

I had have a so called period every month bang on time since its instalment. It now lasts 7 to 9 days. Before the foreign object of a coil I could bleed for just a few hours with period dates out of sync as I reached 40 and 30 years of menstruation.

I got Mirena fitted mid Jan this year. Still getting spotting daily (probably about 8 days where no spotting that whole time). Can recognise a period as slightly heavier, and drags on longer but still all controllable with just panty liner. Just wondering if the spotting is ever going to stop!? Do think the 'periods' are getting lighter though.

I had almost continual light bleeding for about 6 months with my first mirena and then nothing for years . With the second I had heavy bleeding constantly and had it removed as it was ridiculous .

Did it just stop after 6 months (with your first one)? I keep questioning whether to get it taken out! but maybe should bear with it longer if this is me nearing the end !

I had mine fitted in December, constant bleeding / spotting until April so contacted my GP and now on the mini pill too. It has helped a bit but still haphazard and no real routine.

Wondered if anyone on this thread can help! I had the Mirena Coil fitted about 3.5months ago. I have had terrible Bleeding,
anything from light spotting to a full period. It’s not really stopped. I am also experiencing really horrible trapped wind feeling, so much so that it is stopping me from sleeping. Any advice? Do I keep going to hit the 6month mark which is when I was told it could
calm down, or do I get it removed?! So hard to know what to do! Many thanks
