Not sure if I've posted this in the right place sorry.. anyway I have long hair not very long but still long enough. I noticed when brushing recently a lot is coming out and the brush and I'm finding hair strands all over my house super annoying!! Anyway does anyone else experience this🙈trying not to be too paranoid about it 🙈

Have you recently given birth or switched birth control?

I get loss like that due to hormone fluctuations.

I’d go the gp and ask advice.

purpleme12 · 12/06/2024 19:41

Is that what's coming out each time you brush?

Or just when you wash?

This happened to me round about age 50. It was part of menopause. In my case the gp said my skin got so dry that the hair follicles didn't have much to grip into so they and the hair fell out.

I got some coconut scalp lotion stuff from GP to put on and it did help a bit.

You might want to consider your hormones. Don't know if eating oily fish more often might help. People told me that but I'm not a fan.

My hair was like this and seems to have gotten thicker after 6 months of taking biotin

helleborus · 13/06/2024 12:46

@Calm67 I would definitely go and see your GP. Various conditions can cause hair loss e.g. thyroid issues, as well as hormones as previously mentioned

Piddypigeon · 13/06/2024 12:55

I lose that much on wash days (2 x per week) bit I don't brush in between. If you lose that much every times, it looks a lot. Your hair does look thin on the photo. I would see the GP. Loads of things. Thyroid issues, low on iron etc. Are you feeling well in yourself otherwise?

I wouldn't start taking random supplements but try to get to the bottom of it with bloods first.

MonsteraMama · 13/06/2024 13:00

I have very long, very thick, wavy hair and this is completely normal shedding for me and always has been. Handfuls, all the time, I have no idea how I have any hair left but I do. Daughter is the same. Like golden retrievers.

If it's not normal for you I'd go and see your GP and get some advice, same for anything outside of your personal normal. It does look as though it's thinning in the photo you posted, whereas if it was usual shedding you wouldn't be able to see noticeable thinning on the head.

Yeah that looks like hair loss, I'm sorry.
See your GP for initial tests or a hair loss specialist if you can afford it.

MyPearlAnt · 13/06/2024 13:05

Don't take any supplements before your blood tests because it can skew the results.

Calm67 · 13/06/2024 20:33

Thank you everyone it was worrying me a lot so I went this morning and got my bloods done. Hopefully they find the cause of itConfused
