UTI and sex

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 12/06/2024 08:00

I've a new partner. Have had 4 utis in 6 weeks. Always starts 2 days post sex. Antibiotics taken each time...gets rid of it. Had test for Chlamydia all fine. This time around symptoms were not too bad, took cystopurin and it was fine for 2 days, now urgency and tickle is back. We are both hygienic, I am on vagifem and ovestin for 2 years. Never had issue with Uti after sex last year ( last partner )...but this year..it's always 2 days after. I try wee afterwards but sometimes nothing happens..but I try. Am going nuts and pretty sick of the cycle now. Pretty healthy otherwise...fit...drink tons of water normally. Any tips....please

You need to do all the sti tests not just chlamydia, he's giving something to you everytime, he needs to be treated aswell.. so many antibiotics is not good for u... or dump him.... 👀why put up with this.....

This is quite presumptuous advice and not very helpful, one bit!. There could be numerous reasons for this...PH levels are different, Menopause, dryness and agitation from having sex....plenty of reasons. Telling someone to dump another is not helpful and not what the ethos of this site is

A Doctor just been on This Morning.. talking about this subject.. see if you can get on catch up.

Precipice · 12/06/2024 11:02

Can he get tested for STDs other than chlamydia? And you as well?

Is he washing (specifically the genital area) before penetrative sex?

Marblessolveeverything · 12/06/2024 11:09

I would suggest further testing to rule out everything, just in case.

But I know I need to increase my water intake to ensure I urinate after sex🤦‍♀️ otherwise I am likely to have UTI. Long term partner,no hygiene issues just I think my sensitivity has increased with peri.

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 12/06/2024 12:07

With the symptoms ( urgency and burning ) it could have been Chlamydia or Gnorrhea...other STDs don't have these symptoms ( Heps B etc, Herpes and others).
My urine sample from yesterday came back now with no infection in it. I was on day 2 cystopurin. I've just bought prebiotic for female health and UtiPro Plus.

Its just..because..new partner..never had this before... you havent done the other tests..always after sex... please do get tested first before you start looking for other reasons.. but not while youre taking antibiotics, but next time u get symptoms... the clinics are quite fast with these tests you dont have to do it through gp if embarassed

(And i said dump him cause tou said he's new..before you get too involved and have to spend your life taking pill after pill... if its some sort of other reason... )
Also could be just thrush.. and maybe use condoms.... but please test first

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 14/06/2024 20:08

Results show no STIs of any kind., thankfully. Urine test showed infection again. Showed sensitive to everything inc E.coli. Doc said it could be numerous reasons - vaginal atrophy thinning the walls and rubbing making irritation, bowel and urethra transfer internally and extenally etc. I dont get it because for over 2 months all was fine then all of a sudden this has been happening weekly. Doc said I could go on low dose antibiotics but tbh Im slow to do this. Im on a short course of antibiotic now, and on UTIPro +. I think its odd how for 2 months all weas fine then now not. Should I use lubes? We are both clean people - no hygiene issues. Could really do with some info / encouragement 😪

Marblessolveeverything · 14/06/2024 20:19

That sounds frustrating as they're not giving you a definitive diagnosis. It might be worth trying a few adjustments to see can you avoid the low dose antibiotics.

So increase the water intake, lube would be worth trying. Can your doc refer you on to explore the physical aspect? Is there a referral to review atrophy? At least then it would rule out that aspect?

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 14/06/2024 20:30

Ive had the VA for nearly 2 years now and have vagifem and ovestin daily since.

Just dont understand how all was fine for 2 months and now 2 days after each bed hop I have a UTI, like I said we are both very hygienic. My doc didnt really help in advice tbh - I even said to her - "well Ive found that conversation no help at all"and all she said was that she couldn't give a scientific reason as to why this was happening 😡. Would it be sexual position? I'm quite small and he is on the well endowed size...Im trying to remember back to the 2 months to recall if we were just plain missionary - its just me thinking is what we are doing now too irritating for the walls of my vag ( him being large ) - if that makes sense - sorry to be so straight on this !!

@ThePeppyCoralCrow look this isn’t scientific or bloody sexy but would keeping a log of positions, urination and discomfort help narrow down if it is a particular position? Doctor doesn’t sound great.

I am in Ireland I want to a Menopausal clinic for a review work provided it. Came out with a list of over 90 potential symptoms to look forward to. Is there any option for you to go private for a consultation to see if there are some further assessments worth while.

I appreciate it must be disheartening.
Typical you find a good guy and then your body is “allergic “😂.

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 14/06/2024 21:09

You know @Marblessolveeverything Im starting to think for the first 2 months it was all very tame and all was fine UTI wise and now for 2 months looking at it I think Im more on top - which maybe isnt the best given all the advantages he has !! and my doctor who is female is so crap Im going to try another on Monday. The positions have def become more changeable in the last 2 months.

He is a really good guy - I am so disappointed this is happening to me...so gutted...and annoyed to be honest

i was recently told most uti's are actually e-coli.
any rectal anything before vaginal anything?
or anything lubby going between the two zones?

Happinessischeeseontoast · 14/06/2024 21:45

Hey op I had this problem and was recommended d-mannose. I tried it as a last resort because I didnt believe it would work. Before then I had hospital referrals, had an MRI and the next step was going to be to have a camera inserted. The D-Mannose was amazing for me. I initially had it everyday but now I just take one after sex and the morning after and I don't get a UTI. I recently went away for a night and didn't take it but thought I'd be ok as I've not had one in so long but lo and behold a UTI turned up a couple of days later! So it confirmed what I already knew.

For me it's been a life saver.

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 14/06/2024 22:15

@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea I have seen that - and its what turned up on my results amongst other sensitivities. Tbh there is no messing between the two areas - maybe a mistaken hit by accident 🤔but a seconds worth. @Happinessischeeseontoast I asked the female doc today should I try D'Mannose and she said no, do the round of antibiotics - and she wasnt too enthuastic about it - tbh I've seen nothing but good things about it online. Do you mind me asking - were your UTIs every time after sex? and where do you get your D'Mannose ( brand ) ? thank you.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 14/06/2024 22:18

i've picked up d-mannose from the local health food store. i keep it on hand.

Campestris · 14/06/2024 22:20

I think peeing immediately (and I mean immediately) after sex can make a huge impact. I notice that I leave it for just 5 minutes I am much more likely to get a UTI. Since I've implemented my new rule of going immediately (I'd say within 2 minutes), I've been UTI free. If it means upping water intake before sex then do it.

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 14/06/2024 22:24

@Campestris thank you. I drink water all day long ...all the time- and I find when I have to go I have to go...its a fine line between holding it in long enough to have sex without wanting to go to the loo in the middle....I also find after sex I have no wee - even though I try immediately,,,jesus getting older sucks

@ThePeppyCoralCrow yes every time - it was miserable and embarrassing as we are also clean and have good hygiene. I'm sceptical about any home remedy type solution but thought I have nothing to lose and the camera sounded grim. Could never have guessed I'd have seen such a difference. I get 1000mg and just order from Amazon. It's definitely worth a try and everything crossed it gives you some relief.

Happinessischeeseontoast · 15/06/2024 19:43

I've had these - one dose is one tablet but they are massive so only get if you ok having tablets.

D-mannose Tablets 1000mg - Coated Tablet Easy to Swallow Longer Shelf Life 50 Pack - Suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans, A Premium Mannose Supplement from Naturesupplies https://amzn.eu/d/3uaOzFz

There are loads of options though, just make sure you check the dosage as some are smaller and you need to take multiple.

ThePeppyCoralCrow · 15/06/2024 21:38

@Happinessischeeseontoast can I ask what dosage please, any side effects and worked immediately or did they take a while?
Thank you

I'm allergic to dh's sperm. If he finishes inside me I always get a UTi the next day.

If he pulls out I'm fine. It's frustrating but it's what we have to do.

I also take hiprex tablets daily which stop bacteria in the bladder from growing or something. They are really good.

So I would try my first option a couple of times and see if it makes a difference!
