Late period now brown blood and spotting - perimenopause?

Hi, just wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

I'm 48, and the last couple of years my cycle has changed a bit - it got a bit shorter, every 28 days, my periods became heavier and I got more cramping and other PMS symptoms.

However this month my period didn't come on the expected date. It's now two weeks later and a couple of days ago I got bad cramping and felt like it was coming. However for the last day or two I've just had a bit of brown blood (that I normally get at the end of a period) and some spotting with red or pinkish blood. It's not really enough blood to keep using tampons. I've still got a bit of cramping. I'm not sure if this is a delayed period, or what.

I get bad health anxiety and feel quite worried, so just thought I'd ask if anyone had any thoughts. Does it sound like something that happens in perimenopause? I'll probably go to my GP next week about it.

I forgot to mention I've also been going through a lot of stress at the moment - I have recently separated from my DH after a long marriage. I don't know if that might have affected things too.

I assume there's no chance of pregnancy?

If you can rule out pregnancy then it's probably the peri menopause. Welcome to the club x 💐🥂💐 my periods were erratic for year's with peri menopause. Everyone is different though x

@eurochick no definitely not any chance of pregnancy.

@shellyleppard thanks - I think!?! I guess it has to start sometime though, but it was a bit of a shock as my cycle has always been pretty regular, and now suddenly this delayed strange period/spotting.

Op i would talk to your doctor and get it checked. I'm now through the menopause by two years and counting...... next time round I'm coming back as a pampered 🐈 😺 💕😂😂
