Sick of rubbish during period

I’m 50 and probably in perimenopause with mild symptoms.

I’m so sick of feeling lousy during my period. I’ve had a lot of pain since a young teen, diagnosed with PCOS at 18 but no sign of it for years now, but it’s the other symptoms that painkillers just don’t control - feeling sick, breast pain and they get bigger the week before (only started a few months ago), a feeling in my stomach and abdomen that I can’t describe - not a pain as such, just a horrible feeling. Feeling so bloated like I’ve been pumped up with air, headaches, diarrhoea, pains down legs and lower back. Period have been heavy in the last two years so the GP gave me tranexamic acid which is a godsend. Periods are worse since having DC 9 years ago.

I’m just so sick of it. Demolishing whole
packets of ibuprofen and paracetamol during one 5-day period, plus transexamic acid, hot water bottle and baths, and I still don’t get proper pain and feeling-crap relief.

Does anyone feel similar and what do you use/do?

I’m 51 and in peri.

I have all the symptoms you describe and asked my gynaecologist for an mri. Turns out I have endometriosis and adenomyosis.

Not saying you have that but with your pcos history it might be worth asking to see a gynaecologist.

Hi, yes very similar here. I turned 50 last week. I have been having similar symptoms but also pain outside of my period. It just felt wrong suddenly for me so I booked an ultrasound. In my case it also showed adenomyosis + few other things I am dealing now with. It is just so different for everyone. Sometimes it is just peri, sometimes a bit more but possibly also more typical for our age. I would talk to the GP if you are suffering, they can ask further questions and decide if perhaps useful to have a scan.

Are you on HRT OP?

I ask because I have read that HRT can make endo worse and, therefore, some women only find out that have it in their early 50s.

I've had similar issues to you for about 5 years now, and getting worse. Had a few scans but not made it as far as further investigations yet.
