My adult dd went through this a few months ago. The thought of the procedure was actually far more frightening for her than the actual process itself. The important thing is to read the instructions thoroughly and make sure that you are in a place you feel safe and comfortable in when you take the tablets.
ideally it’s good to have a trusted friend or family member aware of what you are doing, just in case but other than that it should be straightforward. Keep on top of taking some painkillers and it should be like a heavy period. Take care of herself op and I hope it’s all sorted quickly for you x

Really severe pain and awful vomiting and diarrhoea. The pains were intense like contractions for about 6-8 hours then stopped when everything was passed .

Mine was really not that bad, I was sent co-codamol to take in advance and it was no worse than a heavy period, pain or blood-wise. It was over completely in less than 4 hours from start to finish.

Try not to worry.

My experience was okay

period pains but nothing extreme

was over quickly thankfully

I also have Health anxiety so I empathise

take the pain relief they send in the pack and use a hot water bottle .

take care x

It will depend on how far along you are, but for me, at 6 weeks I had some moderate to heavy period cramps, bleeding like a heavy period which then lasted for about 2 weeks. This started around 30 minutes after I inserted the Misoprostol tablets. It doesn't always have to be an awful traumatic thing. I was just grateful to not be feeling sick anymore. Good luck 🤞

Thank you
everyone for your replies I took my first habit last night and had no side-effects and I’m going to insert the four tablets tomorrow morning. I have health anxiety. I’m absolutely terrified. I’ve read stories online about people passing out being dizzy being sick having to go to hospital and I’m absolutely terrified my anxiety through the roof.

Are you able to stay in bed tomorrow when you take the tablets Op? Do you have a partner or family in the house with you who could look after you? I took the tablets, put a pad in and just laid in bed until it was over. I think this will be the best option for you if possible, so you can try and distract yourself with TV or phone. This should help you avoid any dizziness or sickness. Be kind to yourself.

Hi Jade,

Honestly, it was fine. I was early though - 6w 1d. It was no worse than a heavy period and I was sick before taking the pills but that was because I'd already started to suffer horrendous morning sickness. If you are a bit later on in gestation you can expect potentially more pain and sometimes blood and clots will be heavier, but every woman is different so it's hard to comment on that. I also bled for around 2-3 weeks after, and my period started again 2 weeks after this.

But in terms of the tablets, I had no negative side effects and the pregnancy was cleared fully with no issues. This is the majority case for most women so try not to stress out about the horror stories. I'm sure the abortion service have mentioned this but just be conscious of any high temperatures or excessively heavy bleeding or pain. You can always ring them for reassurance if you're worried. Hope it all goes well tomorrow x

Thanks you so much for than reassurance and I’m scared I have been sat here all day shaking, read people stories as they say everyone is different and some saying it’s worse than labour and then most excruciating pain they have ever felt! I can’t cope and don’t know where to turn x
