Uterine fibroid

Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone could share any experiences or advice. My partner has what was originally believed to be a large uterine fibroid growing on the outside of her uterus. Before agreeing a surgery plan to remove this the doctor wanted further scans to check it’s a benign fibroid rather than something cancerous.

The scan has taken place and the wait for full results is quite long, however the radiologist did today say they are unable to rule out cancer based on what they have seen but couldn’t confirm either way until the full report is done. I wondered if anyone has a similar experience to share or any insight into the likelihood of this being more than a fibroid? Pain and associated symptoms are generally only during a period and she is generally well otherwise.

thanks in advance 💐

I'm bleeding a lot everyday for the last 2 weeks with blood clots. Some people think it's related to fibroid too. I have yet to go to the doctor to see what is causing it.
Sorry I am unable to help you in this matter. You must be so anxious waiting for the results. I hope you get the results you're hoping for.

I was diagnosed with this recently. I'm having a scan but the gyno has scheduled a complete hysterectomy as I'm anaemic and the fibroids, womb etc need to go. I've suffered long heavy periods for a long time and now I'm exhausted and not functioning. I'm not assuming cancer but they will test the tissues.

I had a similar issue and waited 6 weeks for results. All clear and the doctor said 9/10 usually are. Please try not to worry, although I know that's easier said than done!

For a hysteroscopy - results advised on a 6 week basis, turned out back in 5. At the time I had my last smear which came back quickest in giving peace of mind had the smear on a Thursday and had hysterscopy following week on a Monday.

Unfortunately two months after, no thanks whatsoever to gynae, a GP finally listened and next thing I know I’m having a colonoscopy - coming up 7th out of the 10 weeks waiting and I’ll be lucky then to get answers judging by nearby trusts. Every time an alert comes through even when it turns out junk I’m jumpy and counting days down is seriously awful.

Fibroids are not taken seriously enough. I’m left with no option but private scans to get answers/check on growth when it comes to gynae as the trust is long gone.
