Bleeding ovary cyst

Had a scan yesterday, I have a cyst 3.5cm, I've had moderate to heavy bleeding for almost 4 weeks, anyone experienced? This does it normally go on its own? Surgery, meds, waiting for the gp to look at results but they certainly don't rush themselves and worried about being fobbed off, all blood tests are fine.

I think they probably leave it if it's under 5cm.

Mines much bigger and I've been waiting over 16 months for an 'urgent' op. 🙄

Thanks for your reply, waiting times are awful, you must be worried. Are you bleeding also? how do they treat it?

They don't treat it, they suggest pain killers if it hurts. I need my ovary taken out as well as the cyst is so big and it can't be done by keyhole as it's now too big.

I've had 2 pre op assessments and have given up asking for an actual date.

OP-What type of cyst is it? I had a scan post MC and they incidentally found a 5cm cyst I wasn't aware of. I'd 3 scans in the pregnancy and not 1 showed a cyst! She said that women get certain types all the time, and unless you happened to be scanned- you'd never know, because they generally just reabsorb.

I had a follow up scan 6 weeks later (they said it had to be at a different time in my cycle) and it had completely gone. No pain at all! Initially I was bleeding from the MC, but that soon stopped, long before that scan.

Are you sure it wasnt fibroids? They can sometimes bleed. Have they given you tranexamic acid to ease the bleeding?

This is true ,lots of cysts resolve by themselves. Mine is a dermoid cyst so needs removing but over had them over the years and they've just gone by themselves.

Not sure on the type of cyst, no fibroids present, been prescribed tranexamic which slows the bleeding a bit but not completely, I hope the sucker will re absorb itself.

Hu @thisdarncyst can I ask what your symptoms are please? I'm wondering if I'm going through the same. Can't see a GP till 14th June though. With your bleeding do you pass clots?

thisdarncyst · 30/05/2024 13:09

Hi @Dancingfairydreams my symptoms started nearly 4 weeks ago, I was in hospital with a high fever and thought I was peeing blood to begin with, so they treated it with antibiotics for a kidney infection, however scan for kidneys were fine.

my period also started a few days later, although different this time, I normally get flooding for two days then only lasts for 4-5 days, this time it's light to moderate bleeding for nearly 4 weeks with clots and it's not stopping, most recent scan showed up a cyst on my left ovary, I'm thinking the infection started there all along but for some reason, not sure why it's still bleeding.

I'm yet to speak to a gp, it's the practice nurse that referred me for the scan and won't speak to them again until Monday, which im booked in for a phone call.

I've also got back ache and heart burn, not sure if it's related.

Thanks @thisdarncyst that's really interesting, sounds similar to mine. I've been bleeding for 7 weeks now, I think I've had a "period" on that time but the flow is so variable I've given up now. I was having days of just some spotting or blood when wiping but now full on gushing & needing to use pads, with a lot of large clots. Called GP but was told its not an emergency appointment matter as being going on for weeks. No offer to see the nurse though. I'm getting on & off stabbing pains & a feeling of heaviness too. I've had issues before but never this bad.

Older post but just to let people know ((if they look this up (what I did))
that I too had an ovarian cyst 15 x 7 x 11 which needed surgery but it was found while pregnant. Didn't want to lose my baby so took the risk of torsion. Cyst was found October 23 when having my sons scan. Didnt even know I had it but sonographer said it was large. Had my son May when this post first came out. Had a pre-op assessment (supposed to be 6 weeks after having my son) 13th Sept 24! Since then I was in so much discomfort as surgeon was pushing up and making sure he seen everything. Should mention I had breast cancer at 30 so he was checking it was still water filled. I was in agony afterwards for weeks. Visited o/o/o 3 times over a week and half before they said to go to A&E. Was admitted, nil by mouth then told I wasn't getting surgery as they only had one surgical theatre for so many specialities?! WTF! I Broke down. By my third visit to A&E I was in sooo much pain with a 3 year old and 4 month old! Surgeon came around second day (still nil by mouth and she said I wasn't having it). After they left I ripped my cannula out and nurse was asking if I was ok?! Seriously. Less than an hour later the surgeon came back, couldn't promise anything but said they will try to get me in. I had surgery that day. There was TORSION AND NECROTIC TISSUE! When I got home, first thing I did was get private healthcare for my kids. £50 is really a lot but I'm not having this for them.
