UTI not getting better

Miriad · 25/05/2024 00:14

It took about 3 weeks before the doctor would even accept that I might have a UTI. I’m testing negative but it’s definitely UTI pain, I know what a UTI feels like and they’ve ruled out other causes with tests.

I’ve been on antibiotics since last night, just over 24 hours. No improvement.

I’m absolutely terrified it’s not going to work. The pain isn’t going away. Shouldn’t I be getting better by now? 😭

does it feel sore wen u r having a wee?

What age are you? Oestrogen cream really reduces the likelihood of UTIs and alleviates existing ones by a high percentage. So if u r poss hitting peri menopause, seek advice.

I know there’s mixed views on cranberry juice as there’s not strong evidence to support its effectiveness but I bought pure, unsweetened cranberry juice and saw an improvement within a day. I can’t say for sure if this is what helped but if u r like me u will try every possible solution. I ordered off of Amazon

reduce sugar as it helps to foster infection in the urinary tract. cut out coffee and alcohol just now.
Ibuprofen before you go to bed and a cystitis sachet. Lots of water.

good luck!! Seek further advice if it’s not improving x

Maybe the oestrogen cream will avoid future infections but I need to deal with the one I’ve got now, and nothing is working. I keep testing negative so they’ve just given me an antibiotic (trimethoprim) but it isn’t doing anything.

I’m incapacitated with pain, I’m exhausted with lack of sleep, I can’t go to work, and the antibiotics aren’t working.

Ask for Amoxicillin, if you can take it. The usual uti antibiotics do nothing for me. If the infection is in a certain part of the tract it won't show on tests. I ended up at the urologist and a course of amoxicillin sorted it out within days with relief after only 4/5 hours.

seek an out of hours appointment today. This is not normal. You should have seen some improvement with the antibiotics. Sounds like a possible misdiagnosis

Go to a&e theyll do bloods and all

Miriad · 25/05/2024 17:39

48 hours of antibiotics. Still no improvement. If it was going to work it would have worked by now wouldn’t it? 😭

I went to A&E. Waited six hours, they were very scornful and said my condition is neither an accident nor an emergency. They said “You do know this service is for emergencies don’t you? Why are you even here?” So what a stupid suggestion this was.

Hey dont blame me cause you stumbled upon someone who couldnt be bothered to do their job... did you tell them youre in pain? Being in pain even after antibiotics is reason to seek help. Do you feel any better now tho? Has the antibiotic done anything yet?

Try 111 for an out of hours GP appointment

You need different antibiotics. The whole system for women with cystitis is outrageous. If you have a dr who doesn't understand women's UTIs - and most of them don't - and they won't let you try a different antibiotic, then maybe try to get some online eg amoxicillin. You might have to lie about why you need them - but that's the shit system for you. There will be an antibiotic that works for you. Many women find Trimethoprim useless. It's just trial and error with different antibiotics. The tests are also hopeless, even the cultured ones. Don't let them tell you that you don't have an infection just because the tests are "negative". Google Dr Catriona Anderson and Professor Lee Malone ( he's dead now but his son has continued with his research) There are lots of women who suffer with recurrent / chronic infections and this problem needs to be addressed properly.

WomanFromTheNorth · 27/05/2024 07:41

By the way, Catriona Anderson also provides a testing service for hard to detect bacteria. That's another option as a last resort. But you have to pay. I can't remember how much it is now.

Order Azo urinary pain relief pills on Amazon for short term relief.
I’m amazed that people still believe in interstitial cystitis. It doesn’t exist, it’s a chronic, embedded UTI.
Hiprex helps me.

Yes. Bloody Interstitial cystitis! It's bollocks. But many Dr's will still offer it as an explanation. It infuriates me. This is a predominantly female problem and it's extremely painful and debilitating. Many women feel suicidal about it and yet it's not taken seriously at all.

May I ask how long you had the uti for before getting the Amoxicillin treatment? I’ve had one for 8 weeks that won’t shift and I’m scared it’ll be too late to clear, but now wondering whether something like this’ll do the trick.
