Mirena Coil just came out at home, anyone else?

It has been in for ages and was well overdue to be changed.

Has anyone removed their own coil? If so what happened (if anything).

Don't read on if you are worried about tmi.

I have had period like pains all day. I just got an urgent urge to use the loo and terrible pain. The bit across the top was half out, the pain was terrible.

I checked again and must have dislodged it. It is now all of the way out. The intense pain has subsided. I now have regular period like cramps but feel so much better.

I will try to speak to my GP surgery tomorrow. I doubt I will get an appointment though.

Yeah my copper coil decided to half expel itself, I think when I was using a mooncup
I had to go to a&e as it was half out and bad cramps, they were looking for someone from gynae and I was "I don't care who takes it out!"

I just booked to have a new one fitted and no issues

I’ve had two copper coils start coming out after exercising. Neither particularly hurt but I was lucky to be able to see a nurse a the same day and she removed them. If yours has already come out and the pain has subsided, I’d ring your surgery for advice tomorrow as you said.

Years ago now I lost 2 Mirena's (presumably down the toilet) and only knew as started bleeding again.

Thanks for sharing.

I have regular cramping now which is manageable, similar to when I had it put in. It hurt going in and I was very worried about getting it taken out.

Insertion and remove of coils, biopsies of the cervix and mammograms should come with the offer of pain relief. Uncomfortable, my arse.

Blimey, imagine finding out your coil was no longer there because you got pregnant. I know this happens.

Did you manage to speak to someone at your surgery, OP? if so, what did they advise?

Just fyi, after my body expelled the second coil, my doctor suggested that I use a different type of birth control as my body didn’t seem inclined to accept coils. 😂 It’s unusual, but some women just aren’t suited to them. I’d give it a second try though, as @buffyslayer says, it can be fine with a new one.

I still have period like pains, I am loads better thanks.

Could not even get through on the phone. I was not feeling well enough to go there directly.

Spoke to one of my friends. They said removal at their surgery was horrendous for them.

Glad you’re feeling better. Take it easy over the weekend. 💐

A nurse accidentally pulled out my copper coil when she did my smear test. It didn't hurt at the time.
I was happy that my periods went from 10 days to 4 days so I never replaced it.

AncillaryMercy · 24/05/2024 21:54

Thanks @BruFord, will do.

I'm glad it's out.
