How long can bleeding last after stopping progesterone only pill?

Hi everyone, I'm 46 and perimenopausal. My gynaecologist prescribed dianogest seven months ago, a progesterone-only pill used to treat endometriosis, to help with my heavy periods and possibly shrink my fibroids.
Initially, it worked well, I had some spotting, then my periods stopped for a few weeks. The best thing was that my menstrual migraines disappeared. I went from having one attack a week to nothing. But unfortunately, it didn't last. After three months, I had ten days of heavy bleeding, followed by spotting, and then more bleeding. The bleeding stopped again for about two weeks, only to return with a three weeks ago - heavy bleeding with clotting that just wouldn't stop.
I tried tranexamic acid , which did help, but my gynaecologist told me to stop it as it can exacerbate heavy bleeding in some people. So, I stopped it three days ago, and since then, the bleeding has got worse, it feel like a period, with bad cramps.
Does anyone know how long this might last? I never took the pill so I don’t know how long it should take for my body to go back to normal, I don't really want to bother my GP again, but it wolud make me feel so much better to know what to expect. Thank you!

Just wondering if @Flamingos & @Nomoreplease2016 have got any updates on how you've got in with dienogest?

Hi! So a bit of an update. I saw my GP & got referred to a consultant gynae and he did tests / scans & and was happy to rule out anything sinister. I am just 5.5 months postpartum so he reckons hormones. The mini pill gave me headaches so I got the mirena coil. Bleeding hadn’t been as bad only spotting a bit but that’s expected for the first 3-6 months of the coil. Currently 8 weeks in. Definitely think it’s all hormone related x

That's good to hear it's starting to get under control. Were you able to get dienogest on the NHS? Our GP is refusing to prescribe it to my daughter 😳🙄

@Nomoreplease2016 are you taking dienogest now? How is it for you?
Meant to add above that the consultant gynae has prescribed dienogest but GP is refusing it
