Pre menopausal? Help!

Hey, I need some advice!

I'm 45 and my periods have always been fairly regular and on the heavy side (not menorrhagic) and I'm often a little short tempered and/or down a bit before. The last couple of periods, about 3/4 days before I start I feel so down and anxious like something terrible is going to happen and it's lasted pretty much until the last day of my period then just disappears. I got engaged last weekend to my long term partner and what was a fabulous weekend was overshadowed by some awful feelings of sadness I hid, but couldn't shake off. They completely vanished after but now I'm thinking could this be related to the menopause? My mum passed away a couple of years ago so I can't ask her about it, though I think she started the menopause in her early 50's?
I saw a fantastic Dr about it a few months ago (before it got worse) and she said I could try HRT but would have to use contraception with it.
Has anyone any advice, does it sound menopausal and does HRT work??
Any advice would be great.

An increase in anxiety and depression feelings is classic peri-menopause symptoms. There's an app called "Balanced" that you can use to track symptoms and might help you to identify others too. HRT does work for many people and I definitely wouldn't rule it out. Depending on what you chose you are likely to still need to use contraception too (but are you not doing that anyway unless you're actively trying to get pregnant?)

Oh did you tell your GP about the vasectomy when they mentioned having to use contraception?
