On and off spotting before periods

Hi everyone,

so for the past few years my periods have been anywhere between 23 days and 29 days after being a like clockwork 28 days all of my life.

I have also had spotting in the lead up to my period for a while now.

The last couple of months the spotting has been for 4 days ish before my period but never consistent, for example this month I have been spotting on and off for 5 days, it’s only when I wipe and has only been once or twice a day, yesyerday there was nothing at all but had a little more of it this morning. No sign of my actual period though.

I’m 40 this year and my mum had peri symptoms earlier than I have and had her last period at 45.

Just wondering if anyone else gets a similar sort of one/off spotting in the lead up?

Yes
Do you notice it when you have a bowel movement ?
Mine literally started the month I turned 40
Although , I do also have pre-cancerous cervix cells so I don't know if it's connected
Will be having treatment for that soon but it maybe totally unconnected

@solice84 - yes the first bit of spotting this month was after a bowel movement.

Does yours stop and start or is it consistent light bleeding?

Mine seems to only happen after bowel movements and only in the week before my period
It was particularly bad in February but not as bad the last 2 months

@solice84 and @MrsWhites did you both have any investigations for this or find out if it was a hormonal imbalance? I'm experiencing the same :)

MrsWhites · 07/06/2024 19:05

@Lollyl88 i didn’t have any investigations as my period seemed to go back to normal the following month so I put it down to hormones.

Only had those few days of spotting that month, it never actually got any heavier.
