Ovarian Cyst

Anyone had a 5-6cm ovarian cyst? What was the outcome? Watch and wait and rescan or did they remove?

No other cysts and regular periods so not suspected PCOS.

I am waiting on my consultant follow up app but just wondering what the outcome for others has been?

I had a 4cm fibroma on my ovary and the consultant said he’d remove it at I was going under anyway for endometrial ablation. The recovery was a bit rough as I’ve already had a few c sections so there was a lot of scar tissue, but overall I’m glad he didn’t it, wouldn’t want to be sitting there waiting for it to do something and start hurting.

It did really hurt when it burst, only for a few seconds though. No issues after, that was 20 years ago, i do get recurring cysts. It's like a cycle, dull pain when it's growing then sharp pain and gone.

Mine was a bit bigger, 10cm x 6cm. They thought it was a fibroma but it actually turned out to be a tumour.

Oh gosh.. in the 80s / 90s l had about 6 larger ones removed by laparoscopy.. seperate times over the years.
Two were demoid cysts ( with hair / teeth/ bones).
I also had two removed when l had an ectopic pregnancy and 3 removed when l had an endometrial resection.
I also had Endometriosis as well as PCOS.
My second daughter was born in 1994. I then had a full hysterectomy..everything removed including cervix.
I was 38 years old.
My daughter suffers PCOS.. she's had about 8 cysts but they all burst.. very painful.Wishing you all the best and a good outcome.

I had one that was around 10.5cm, it was surgically removed and turned out to be a dermoid cyst but it wasn't anything more sinister which had been my initial concern. It was actually picked up during one of my pregnancy scans and removed when I was 12 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately mine had sort of strangled the ovary itself so my left ovary was also removed at the time but I think that's very uncommon. I have had cysts since but nothing so large.

Can I ask… did you get any discharge after this happened? I think I’ve had one that’s also burst, horrific sharp pain for just like 2 mins then everything has been fine since.. in fact no aching.. or anything and scans all clear! But I’ve not had any discharge! I’m post menopause so not period related.

No discharge, I suspect your body just absorbs it.

I am early 70s. At my last ultrasound to monitor long-standing fibroids and to monitor my endometrial thickness after being on Provera for a year, I was found to have an ovarian cyst. It was described as thin walled and 5cm in size. Have had a number of ultrasounds, MRIs and CT scans over the past 12 years but the first time a cyst had been seen.

I was given a follow-up external and internal ultrasound around 4 months after it was discovered and it had evidently disappeared. I wasn't aware of it bursting so it may have just been absorbed but I did get an odd discharge for a couple of days which may have related to the cyst.
