IUD (Mirena) Problems

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping I can get some input on others' experiences with the mirena iud around changes in periods and bleeding.

I had mirena placed Dec 2023 (currently on month 4 of having it).

I am struggling with horrible cramps, and I am still getting periods monthly. My period duration has increased and they last around 11-12 days now.

I would say the bleeding is slightly lighter, but I'm getting fed up of having long, painful periods, and was hoping I'd start to see them fizzle out a bit by now.

Can anyone share if they no longer have periods with mirena, and how long they took to stop?

Mine never stopped at all and I was bleeding and spotting every single day until I finally got it removed around 11 months in. It was hell.
My sister never had a single period.
I have a friend who had the same experience as me, but a colleague just has very light 5 day periods each month.
It seems it suits some but not others.

I had the same issue but the bleeding got heavier not lighter and lots of spotting in between. Ironically i was given it to supposedly help with heavy bleeding caused by fibroids. i was back n forth to the GP as it was really impacting my life (had days off sick which I'd never had due to periods before) and in the end it bled itself out in a particularly spectacular episode of passing huge clots that resulted in a trip to A&E! well, that's what we assume happened to it as it was never located after that......
