Uterine Fibriods

Just wanting experiences from women who have had Uterine Fibriods.

What were your symptoms?

How was it diagnosed?

Did it affect your fertility at all?

I randomly didn't ovulate my last cycle and have had all the symptoms that seem to match the classic Uterine Fibriods symptoms.

I am awaiting a GP appt (not sure how helpful they'll be as been having symptoms awhile now (approx 10 months) this also is my second appointment for this.

Very heavy periods and bloated due to the size of them. Didn’t affect fertility for me

I have 3-4. The number changed each time I had a scan and only discovered when TTC in my early 30's. I'd had a scan in my early 20's but they were never mentioned then- or presumably not there at that time. Mine were only marble sized. From memory 1-2 in the uterine wall, 1 on a peduncle (stalk) and 1 in between. With my 1st pregnancy, I had right sided pain so had a very early scan to rule out an ectopic. They said it was likely the hormones affecting the fibroids (shrinking them I think) which caused the pain.

Other than being pregnant and that one sided pain/scan, I had no idea I had them. Extremely regular, 30 day cycle, no mid cycle spotting, no pain otherwise at all. I never missed cycles etc.

DH and myself ended up having lots of fertility tests which were all normal. I was told that the size and location of my fibroids had no baring on fertility. I did end up losing 3 pregnancies and had rounds of IVF, but was told that was due to random genetic issues (I had testing done) with my older eggs and not the fibroids.

OP- what classic fibroid symptoms are you thinking of? How do you know you didn't ovulate? Are you TTC?

Heavy periods, bloating so bad people assumed I was pregnant and sky high CA125 was diagnosed by scan and hystescopy. Zoladex for six months to try to shrink them (didn't work) now waiting hysterectomy. Wasn't trying to get pregnant so can't answer fertility.
