Can I stop bleeding - Mirena Coil question

Opal24 · 07/04/2024 09:58

I was given the Mirena Coil in December for very heavy bleeding which made me severely anemic. I have had a bleed (like a light period) on most days since then - so four months. I spoke to a nurse and she said this is normal spotting (seems a lot heavier than ‘spotting’ to me)

I’m going on a big holiday in the summer and I’d like to avoid bleeding during that time. Is there anything else I can do or take to stop my period? I can’t have the coil removed because I was so so unwell without it. Thank you

I’m sorry OP I’ve got no advice (as I’m waiting to have a coil fitted) - so bumping the thread for you x

I bled for 6 months after getting my Mirena coil fitted.

I'd been back to my GP to see if I could get it removed and they advised me to stick with it.

Very pleased I did as I'm due to get my 3rd one soon and haven't bled since.

Hopefully the bleeding will stop soon, but in the meantime I'd get back to speak to your GP about what to take for your holiday.
