Endometritis - help?

3 days ago I was diagnosed with acute Endometritis following surgery. Prescribed a 1 week course of Doxycycline 2x per day and Metronidazole 3x per day for 1 week.

I’m yet to see any improvement to my physical symptoms. I understand I’m only around half way through the course but I hoped to see some improvement.

I’ve been searching forums and most successful recoveries seem to be treated in an inpatient setting with IV antibiotics. Does anybody have any information on as to whether I should have improved by this stage on oral treatment? Or any experiences with acute endometritis? Trying to speak to a clinician is proving difficult, it was so hard to speak to a GP to receive my suspected diagnosis.

Physically, I have pelvic pain along with abdominal tenderness / swelling. Mentally and physically this is getting me down. The effect this might have on my future fertility is also troubling me a huge amount.

Just to clarify this is endometritis not endometriosis, I’ve seen the two being confused frequently online x

Sorry to hear that you are unwell with this. I had endometritis after giving birth, triggered by a tiny piece of retained placenta. The main symptom was fever /chills but I also had some lower abdominal tenderness. I was admitted to hospital for an emergency D&C and IV antibiotics then was sent home with oral antibiotics.

I think if you haven't noticed any improvement after a week of antibiotics then it would be reasonable to ask to be reviewed.

Hi I have also been searching for answers on this. I have been diagnosed with chronic endometritis after surgery, it was picked up in my biopsy. I've felt generally unwell and regulsr abdominal pain. I've been put on doxycycline but I cannot tolerate it- I'm really sick and can't keep it down. I've tried it every way- with food, without food etc and followed the instructions on how to take it but I am just so unwell with it. Called the GP today and they are wondering if I need to go on for IV antibiotics. I'm in again on Monday and see what they are saying.

Hello, sorry for the delay in responding.

I’m so sorry you’ve been diagnosed with this! How long is your course of antibiotics? How soon after taking it are you sick?

I did some research today and found my local hospital offers a same day emergency care gynaecology service. I called them myself directly but they cannot offer self referrals. I spoke with a clinician and was able to ask them to phone the service to refer me. Based on a brief outline of my case they accepted and asked me to attend the ward today.

They’re happy that the infection markers in my blood are coming down to a tolerable level - although I still feel like I’m in quite a bit of pain so this confused me further.

They checked my HCG and it’s pretty high. They have requested I attend the hospital tomorrow for a scan in case of retained product. I’m hoping this isn’t the case but it will give me some answers if so.

I hope your GP gives you the treatment you need but if not maybe could you contact your local hospital and see if they offer a similar service? They were great today xx

Hi Rarlos. I was wondering how you got on?
I currently have endometritis after retained tissue was left after surgery for miscarriage.
ando also so concerned about future fertility for ashermans as with endometritis and S&P I’m falling into the categories

Hello,

It took around a month for me to start begin feeling “well” post antibiotics. I was also terrified about the effects this event may have on my fertility and I’m still pretty anxious. My period returned by the following month, and they have remained heavier than they ever were since. I’ve read with Ashermans that periods are lighter, so I’m hoping that means all is okay… get better soon x
