UTI worries

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help… Around 2 weeks ago I had burning uti symptoms. Was prescribed 3 days nitrofurantoin (urine sample was normal). Went on holiday and still had symptoms so I spoke to a doctor abroad who prescribed 7 days of ciprofloxacin. Came back home, and on day 5 of the antibiotics I had vomiting and diarrhoea and a mild fever, which lasted 24hrs. Not sure if it was a tummy bug or a reaction to the antibiotics. Was concerned about kidney infection but I don’t have back pain and my temperature is back to normal now.

I spoke to the GP again and she said because I was sick to stop taking cipro, it was day 5 and she said it would’ve kicked in by now.
But I’m still feeling a burning feeling down there, its after I’ve been for a wee, like I’ve not fully emptied my bladder. I’m trying d mannose now, and I have a canesten treatment from the gp that I’ll start tomorrow. Has anyone experienced a similar thing, uti symptoms but negative urine sample, and not responding to antibiotics? Cipro is quite a powerful antibiotic so I’m surprised it’s not worked. I’m confused about what this could be and I’m getting anxious. I’m 43. Thanks for any insight or shared experience.

Do you have any peri menopause symptoms?

One symptom I’ve had is I noticed I’m a little dryer down there (only noticed during sex) It’s more noticeable after ovulation and in the run up to my period. I’m aware I might be perimenopausal. Someone in the menopause thread mentioned hrt creams that can help uti symptoms - I’ll explore that if nothing else helps.

You might want to start using lube for sex, as a preventative of problems too.
