CIN 3 - can I ask for treatment at colposcopy?

Hi all,

Received the results of my cervical screen earlier this week. As you can see in the title, CIN 3. Reading other posts on here has helped me to feel a little less distraught.

Guys have been brilliant and given me a cancellation appointment on Saturday, which means fewer days of waiting/worrying.

My question for anyone who may know: is it possible to ask for any treatment to be carried out at that appointment? My reasons are two-fold: 1. More waiting is just sooo stressful, 2. I have a 3.5 month old and I’d like to avoid repeatedly taking him to a hospital.

I have booked my first HPV vaccine for Tuesday having read the studies that show this helps to prevent recurrence. I feel so ill informed that I had no idea this was available to someone my age! Is there anything else that I should do? I have never smoked, am slim, have a healthy diet and try as hard as I can to sleep well!

Thank you so much in advance for the hand holding and experience.

If they observe CIN 3 at your appointment they will likely remove there and then.

Hi @HeartyPombear please don't worry, borderline changes mean extremely mild - they only look slightly different to the normal cells. Most likely course of action is your daughter will have a colposcopy (nurse looks at cervix under microscope) to check they agree with the smear results. If they do they will just retest her in a year. Vast majority of people with this result find it clears up all on its own and they have no further problems.

Hi all,

An update and a question if anyone has experienced anything similar.

As above, I had a smear that came back as CIN 3 and HPV positive.

I then had a colposcopy and biopsy. The consultant said he couldn’t really see anything and the biopsy came back as HPV only.

I was then invited for Lletz due to the original smear. The doctor there again said that she couldn’t see anything and asked if I wanted to go ahead. I said, do it for peace of mind.

Just had a letter back saying that they have clear margins and a small area of CIN 1 was found. They are referring this to a multidisciplinary panel due to the initial CIN 3.

Does this mean they still think there is CIN 3 that they have missed?

Hi Reb
I know your post is old but I came across it and wanted to check how you are. Did the MDT meeting happen?

Hi HeartyPombear
just wondering if you are still around and how your daughter got on? From your post it sounded like when you posted the picture of the letter it was all very fresh for both of you
