Late period but not pregnant

Yummymummy456 · 24/03/2024 12:58

Hi. My period is now 5 days late, I have taken 2 pregnancy tests which both say negative.
I went for a 5 mile run a week ago, which is the first time in 2 years I’ve done any exercise. Could the exercise have made my period late? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

If periods are 5 days late the test should have been positive by now
Cycles aren't always very regular

Yummymummy456 · 24/03/2024 13:08

It’s so strange as my cycle is usually regular. I am hoping it is due to the exercise I did!
We have a 4&1 year old so another baby would be a huge shock.

If you ovulate late you might take longer to show a positive pregnancy result - mine take as week longer. Otherwise it might just be one of those things, I know people who have skipped periods/been late for no reason - only as we’ve got older though (late 30s)

@TheNeverEndingOver I hope it is that I am just late, I’m not ready for another baby quite yet 🥴
With my 2 previous pregnancies, I got a positive test a few days before my period, but I understand all pregnancies are different. It’s just awful the waiting game!

Yes I think with two children already unlikely you have suddenly started to ovulate late! Hopefully it’s just a hormonal blip and you’ll be back on track soon x

Have you been unwell at all? I had covid earlier this year and my period was over a week late, negative pregnancy tests as well.

Crushed23 · 24/03/2024 20:42

I’m in the same boat except mine is 2 weeks late.

I’ve had some light pink discharge for 5 days (not continuously, maybe once a day), but no sign of my period.

I need to get my period to start a treatment (egg freezing) and so this delay has been driving me insane.

Crushed23 · 24/03/2024 20:44

It’s just awful the waiting game!

It really is. Is there anything a doctor can prescribe to induce a period?

Yummymummy456 · 24/03/2024 21:26

@ImDuranDuran No, I’ve been fine. I was breastfeeding my little boy for 1 year, I stopped in December, but my periods had returned to normal since then.

@crushed Have you suddenly started exercising too?

It’s awful waiting and waiting for things to happen. I hope your egg freezing goes well. Sorry, I don’t know your story, but could it be implantation bleeding?
I don’t know, I know they can give you something to delay a period so maybes, if nothing happens I will go and speak to them.

@Yummymummy456 I have always exercised but I have been exercising more than usual since the start of the year. I suspect that’s the reason for the delay / skipped period. I had a scan a week ago and the nurse confirmed I had ovulated fine, and said that late periods can ‘just happen’, not to worry etc. I just wish it would get here because I really want to get started with the injections and not have this whole thing continue eating into my life. 😞
