Ferritin level high - really worried

I've been on iron tablets for years, due to low levels. I have a type of rheumatoid arthritis and am on a number of meds for this.
Just had a phone call from my gp to say my recent blood tests show a ferritin level of over 1700! I have to stop the iron tablets immediately and have another blood test in two months.
As I have regular bloods every three months, surely this should have been picked up before?
I'm really worried about the damage this can cause, any nurses or doctors here that can advise?

ferritin may be raised due to rheumatoid arthritis and be unrelated to iron stores. It also can't be interpreted in isolation - your GP is the best person to advise as they'll have more info.

Yeah it’s most likely due to chronic inflammation from your RA and quite honestly to be expected.

You can still have high ferritin levels, an ok HB level but low iron levels.
No damage, just part and parcel of your RA.

Please do some reading about it so you are armed, unfortunately awareness and knowledge around this is woefully inadequate even with Drs and nurses.
