Anyone ever had a late period but not pregnant?

So I'm defo not pregnant as not had sex.

My periods are usually 30 days long, but we've experienced quite a bit of stress recently with my husbands redundancy so last month my cycle was 38 days, and this month I had a bad illness which lasted about 2 weeks (prob around ovulation time) and now I'm on day 40!!

I've never ever missed a period before,

I've got 2 kids, baby is 9 months, not sure what that has to do with it.

Can stress do this??

Yes stress can do this .

solice84 · 05/03/2024 19:23

Yes
After stress

DreadPirateRobots · 05/03/2024 19:25

Yes, tons of times. Most women will have done. A change of time zones or diet/exercise can do it, or stress, or random hormonal fluctuations.

GoodnightAdeline · 05/03/2024 19:25

I have an 11 month old and my cycles have been nuts since they returned when he was 6 months old. Really heavy and the cycles are getting increasingly longer, usually I’m 27-28 days but the most recent was 34. I’m also extremely stressed as PPs have mentioned so think that might be something to do with it as well.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 05/03/2024 19:26

Yes, I think it’s pretty common. Mine was stress related

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 05/03/2024 19:27

Yes. Over 5 weeks late when my grandparent passed away and I got married. I was stressed as all within a few months.

Saschka · 05/03/2024 19:28

Yes, I think it’s more unusual to never have had a late period? Unless you are on the pill or something.

Lots of people have irregular cycles, or can miss a period altogether if they are ill or stressed. Perfectly normal.

HappierTimesAhead · 05/03/2024 19:28

Illness has made me late before. I think it was when I had covid and my period ended up being 1-2 weeks late after.

FailingAtEverythingAgain · 05/03/2024 19:31

Yep. When I had a particularly stressful couple of life events in a row I had a couple of years where my cycle would randomly be anything between 2 weeks and 2 months. It was great fun and didn't add to my stress in the least 🙄 Also it took a good year to get back into having a regular cycle after each of my kids was born. Are you breastfeeding?

mnahmnah · 05/03/2024 19:34

Even at 44, I am very regular and only a day or two out. After we moved house I was 8 days late. Only time ever.

brightpre · 05/03/2024 19:37

Yes, twice. Once in a heatwave and the other in a stressful time in my life!

abbly · 10/03/2024 11:31

Update! I came on today, my app tells me I'm 15 days late. I am soooo exhausted I dunno if the lateness is the cause of this.

Anyway, how weird I had no idea this was a common thing and it's mad I've never had this in the 20 odd years I've been having periods for. So good to know for the future! Thanks all for replying.

Yeah - stress - anxiety - grief can all do this

Im currently cycle day 31 & wishing it would hurry up

Have to have a colonoscopy next week
And would obv rather not have period @ same time

Lovingitallnow · 11/03/2024 11:39

I missed one when I started an intense diet and exercise, my dr was convinced I was pregnant but I had a negative test.

MeinKraft · 11/03/2024 11:40

Mine was 8 days late last month. I think I'm at the very beginning of peri menopause though.

SnapdragonToadflax · 11/03/2024 11:42

Yes, definitely. Also illness. I've twice had bad news that delayed my period by a week or two (obvs the bad news happened at a point in my cycle that ovulation was able to be delayed).

Revealingall · 11/03/2024 11:45

It's only happened to me three times. Twice in my 20s, I missed a whole cycle and then once in my early 30s following a holiday and some stress. They were also linked to Christmas, so January periods were missed. I haven't had problems since an ovarian cyst burt so it may have been stress or the cyst.

S22 · 02/07/2024 05:50

Mine was always 28 days, since this February 29,30, 26, 35 don’t know what going on. I have started the gym 3 months ago but surely that can’t delay periods .

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/07/2024 07:36

Non-pregnancy things that have delayed my period over the last 40 years:

Stress
Tiredness
Losing weight
Significantly upping exercise
Hormone randomness/peri

HappierTimesAhead · 02/07/2024 07:44

Yes, after Covid
