What does a hot flush feel like?

I'm 45 but still have regular periods. Earlier today I was eating lunch and suddenly felt extremely hot all over and really light headed. I also felt like I couldn't breathe which I assume was anxiety. I didn't go red and wasn't sweaty. It lasted about 10 minutes and then went away completely.

Does that sound like a hot flush? I had something similar about 6 weeks ago but just the hot feeling and no light-headedness. I do have low blood pressure but was sitting down.

Thank you your experience sound similar to mine, especially those who had accompanying anxiety. I've had every single blood test under the sun recently so am confident there's no iron issues or anything like that. I've felt fine the rest of the day, just a bit freaked out as I found it scary. I assume if I get them more often I won't find them so anxiety inducing!

I can't take HRT due to breast cancer so know I will just have to struggle through any symptoms as best I can. The anxiety is the worst though. I'd much rather have a physical pain or symptom than anxiety!

Hi OP - there will be techniques you can use to help with the anxiety/panic. HRT was probably a quick fix for me tbh (albeit after years of enduring the symptoms), but do look into therapeutic routes - I think they’d have helped me. The first time it happened I was in my late 40s and had gone into a ‘family experience’ type of thing where you have to duck down and walk through a dark tunnel. All v tame but I had my first-ever anxiety attack and had to be rescued and led out by staff! I look back now and see that was the beginning of it. If I’d learnt coping techniques, they’d have helped for sure. Xx

Same - can't take HRT since BC (so I steer clear of the 'Thou shalt take HRT!' threads lest I feel glum and left out) - and I hate to say it, but exercise seemed the best thing to help the symptoms generally...

But yes, the anxiety was/is definitely a thing with it for me. A deep breath and a glass of something cold can help, but otherwise, just the awareness helps, doesn't it?

Just burning all over all of sudden and go hotter and hotter and sweat start dripping from my head and all over body... its horrible ..then freezing of course when it passes... had them a lot in pregnancy, sweating like mad when eating, sweating in the shower..pointless having a shower was drenched in sweat... like bonkers... still have them but not to such extend...

Yours sounds more like anxiety attack, did u think of something in that moment it happened?

No I was actually feeling relaxed but then the weird heat/light headed feeling made me panic a bit.

Mybe just off thing try not to dwell on it x
Cause anxiety too can bring all these weird sensations (i absolutely hate my anxiety) and mimic anything like that

Mine have stopped now( lasted 6 months) and they came over me very quickly from my torso and upwards. They were mainly at night around 9pm and I would have to remove a layer. Lasted a few minutes.
