I'm looking to change my copper coil. I've been on it for 6 years and it's making my periods unbearable. I leak almost every day, I soaked through a super tampon in 3 hours yesterday, and I'm having to throw away underwear every period. I've never had clots before but this period has been particularly bad and I've noticed I've been passing clots. I just want to have a normal period.
In the past I have used the progesterone only pill (as I am very overweight I can't use the combined pill) and the implant. I found both of these reduced my libido to the point where contraception was unnecessary.
I'm reluctant to try the mirena coil as I worry the same will happen, plus changing it every 3 years isn't as appealing as the copper which is every 10!
I'm also reluctant to using condoms as my DH has had issues with ED and I'm worried that he will lose his erection if we have to use condoms (this is purely a me worry, he isn't worried about this at all and is fully supportive about removing the coil). I know for a fact that if we went solely to condoms then I would be likely to say don't bother in the heat of the moment too.
DH is scared of anything medical and so a vasectomy is currently out of the question (although I do occasionally gently suggest it). I'm also still aching for another baby and so permanent sterilisation on both sides feels upsetting to me even though it's hugely unlikely.
Has anyone found the holy grail of contraception? The mirena is looking more and more appealing (particularly the lack of periods or at least lighter periods) but I always missed the intimacy with previous partners when I've been on hormonal contraception and didn't have sex. I genuinely don't know what the best thing is. Just looking for advice from women who have had a similar conundrum!
