Fishy odour (not BV) since mirena

Help! I have had a fishy odour from my vagina since I had the mirena in several weeks ago. It happens more when I'm getting some spotting. Dr has swabbed twice, not BV. My 8 year old daughter has been cuddling up to me in bed and just declared that she can smell fish!
I'm trying the mirena to help with adenomyosis and excessive bleeding. I'm well settled into a HRT regime of oestrogel and utrogestan for a couple of years and use vagifem already.
I could smell myself sitting down in work today whenever I'd shift in my chair.
How do I manage this? I've never used special washes, always just wash vulva with soap and water, rarely even get thrush or UTIs.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to start bringing wipes and change of underwear into work for a mid work day freshen up.
Your help would be most appreciated!

Try prebiotics, that might help.

TryingNotCrying24 · 28/02/2024 22:03

Thanks @DimLlaeth do you mean oral prebiotic? Or something local?

I had this and used Balance Activ pessary gel and it worked really well. Also be careful about using soap etc and upsetting the pH balance.

I’ve had bv so many times and half the time it wasn’t picked up by the swabs. I’m sure the doctors thought I was making it up but you can’t mistake that smell! I just use balance active pessarys now, I get it every-time after a period, I use the pessarys for a few days and it’s good til the next time.

I agree there's no harm in doing a course of the bv gels

Keep a box in handy and do one every other week after the initial course to keep on top of it

Have you been having sex? I find that there is a smell after that, which can last a whole day. I’ve never really been sure what to do about it to be honest …

TryingNotCrying24 · 29/02/2024 07:15

Thank you so much everyone! It's not sex related, more like it's related to when I'm bleeding. @Whattodonowadays interesting you get it after a period. And interesting that it's not always picked up on a swab. I'll try the pessaries. I'll skip the soap for the moment too, but I never used that inside, only outside.

Hi all hoping someone can give me advice.. I had thr coil 1 week ago and I am getting dark broen and light brown heavy discharge ?? Sorry If its TMI... is this normal?

TryingNotCrying24 · 01/03/2024 08:37

My doc said it takes about 3 months for everything to settle down with the coil. Some bleeding after is normal I think, but you can double check with the doctor. Mine was more bright red than brown. I think the colour depends on how old the blood is.

My doctors want me to have one..and my mom has said the same that it made her smell aswell when she had it.. cause it retains blood whatever there around it and it smells...no advice sorry x

TryingNotCrying24 · 03/03/2024 17:48

@Somerandomgirl , the balance activ is helping. The aim of the mirena is to stop or minimise bleeding so hopefully that'll be the case once it settles and the smelly blood won't be an issue anymore.

Hope it settles soon and hope stops them altogether 🤗
