I will preface that my husband has had a vasectomy so I don't need contraception to prevent pregnancy. I've been on the combined pill for a while to help with premenstrual headaches and to stop periods as mine are usually awful. I used to just feel crap for 2 weeks out of every month.

I'm about to turn 35 so at my last check up, nurse changed me to cezarette and its made me feel terrible! It has brought on headaches, constant cramps and bleeding, mood swings, ravenous hunger and insomnia. At this stage, no contraception at all and just 2 weeks of feeling crap a month would be better than this.

Is there any alternative? It was the oestrogen in the combined pill that was keeping the heachaches at bay but I can't have that now. Any advice? Is this just my life now I'm over 35? Feel crap all the time until i hit menopause when it gets even worse? 😪

Was there a specific reason for changing you from combined pill?

Was there a specific reason for changing you from combined pill?

Because I'm about to turn 35. Apparently its riskier to continue to take it after this age.

I would book in to see the GP and try something else. I have had some very poor advice from practice nurses.

Their will be increased risks to any medication, and your GP should be able to explain the risks Vs benefits to help find something that works.

The risks are slight but you can carry on, especially if not overweight and no other risk factors. Agree with pp, ask to see a GP, they can write to gynaecology for advice if needed

Cerazette’s side effects were horrific for me. Especially my moods...they were scary to the point my kids avoided me. I put weight on around my abdomen and saw no benefit from them.

go back to GP and get changed if you can x

Somerandomgirl · 27/02/2024 20:09

How long have you been taking it for? Maybe body beeds to adjust first, its hormones...

But on other hand if youre getting too many side effects maybe need to try a different pill?

AcridAndStanLee · 27/02/2024 20:17

They've changed you way too early if you're not overweight. I'm 36 and quite fat. Each time is a fight to get the prescription refreshed but they said if I wasn't overweight I could stay on until 40s.

I get migraines so can’t take combined pill but was breifly prescribed cerazette … absolutely hellish. I felt so so low. It was just hideous. I stopped it after a month and tried to track my cycles instead. Fucked that up had another baby and have now been sterilised.

Combined pill can be taken until 50yrs old now as long as don't have risk factors.

See a female GP.

I'm not overweight but I do vape which is a risk factor. My blood pressure has always been normal at all my pill check ups. I only took cezarette for 2 weeks and not prepared to endure the side effects as I'm not using it for birth control reasons. I was on it to prevent premenstrual headaches and periods, both of which have returned in full force on this new pill. My natural periods were never this heavy.

I'd go back and ask to go back to the combined pill tbh

AcridAndStanLee · 28/02/2024 08:53

Your health care, your choice. Demand the combined again. They're out of line here and there's no reason to move you over if not overweight.

I was given Cerazette just before Christmas to treat my endometriosis - reasoning being that I’ve been told to avoid anything with oestrogen due to family risk of breast cancer. Absolutely hated it! Was bleeding every other week and turned me into an absolute monster. Not to mention absolutely killing my sex drive! Came off it after just a month and feel back to normal already. Waiting for a gynae consult now to discuss further options
