Anyone have a smear and hysteroscopy close together

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has had these two procedures close together?

I'm on the 12-month smear call and unsure if hystero cancels the need for a smear but I do keep getting the text and letter reminders about booking for smear which makes me think otherwise.

I'm unsure if I should cancel the smear due on a Friday at doctors surgery and then am due to have the other procedure and biopsy on Monday under a general. In another way, I wonder if I should keep the smear as I'm hardly the most willing of cervix's and think the smear may help if the operation gets cancelled or the procedure fails on a Monday.

The hysteroscopy is looking inside your uterus &biopsy of your uterus, the smear is taking cells from your cervix, so you will need them both I’m sure.

I’d advise you to go to both appointments. It might seem logical they should get done at once if the opportunity arises, but the system just doesn’t seem to operate like that. You could always phone the dept where you are getting the hysteroscopy and ask them if you can add the smear on to their procedure but I bet they would just tell you to attend your surgery appointment!
best of luck. I have all of the same coming up myself.

No, I got the letter for a smear a week after the hysterescopy. Was a bit peeved that they hadn't managed to do it when they were up there anyway!

I had a smear the same time as hysteroscopy just over a week ago, you could ask if they can do them both the same time?

Thank you so much for the guidance. Oh didn't know it was possible, so wish I'd asked now as they are also putting a coil in for treatment of the 'fibroid', if I open under the ga.

I came out of my pre-op and had the whole barrage come through of book your smear, the pre-op medics seemed general so felt awkward asking. And there is a point the procedure may not work at which they apparently wake me up and put me through an mri. (difficult patient down below)

I decided to keep the smear as least the surgery have done the last 2 successfully and its the last opportunity to mention about the periods and find out the fibroid type.

Oh god touch and go it’s done rage got me through. Yep I even got the day wrong last week! Nearly an argument as I walked in and the nurse tried to say this won’t be happening as you’ve only had the coil in less than 3 months, they saw the failed exam attempt at the hospital back in November. Add on a lecture that nervous patients should book the 8am slot.

No luck wouldn’t tell the Fibroid type. I genuinely don’t think they know.
