Hi. I wonder if anyone has any experience of stabbing pain in one breast. I tend to suffer with pain at various times in my cycle but this is new and has been coming and going and one is definitely a lot more sore than the other. Just after some advice from anyone please, should i book to see the gp? I can't feel any lumps etc. I'm 41. Thank you

Hi , I used to get terrible stabbing pains in my boobs got a referral to the breast clinic & was told it was hormonal .
Maybe see your GP though .

I'm around the same age as you and recently started getting stabbing and piercing pain in one breast just before my period ( not the regular ache we used to experience previously during monthly cycles )

Don't know if it's part of ageing but feel no lumps either

Had a scan some months back for something unrelated but nothing found thankfully

Will go back if the pain continues but I'm suspecting it's hormonal

I used to have one very painful breast and was called back after a routine mammogram. After several biopsies were taken I was given the all clear. When I mentioned the pain the nurse suggested I take high dose evening primrose oil or starflower oil. I started taking evening primrose oil and after a couple of months the pain had gone. Interestingly, last summer I ran out of tablets and then went on holiday so I didn’t take it for about a month and the pain returned. Now I take it religiously and have been fine ever since. Maybe give it a try?

I don't wish to alarm but the first sign of my breast cancer was pain. I initially ignored it because I've suffered with painful breasts all my life but it became apparent that the pain didn't go away in one breast in a cyclical fashion. Then I found a lump. It's really misleading because so many people believe that pain rules out cancer but that's not true. It IS likely to be hormonal because I had the same for years in both breasts and years before diagnosis. However, do yourself a favour and get it checked. Anything that is different or not normal for you should always be checked out.

@TheFormidableMrsC I have pain in my right breast. 2 years ago I was recalled after a mammogram, had biopsies but was then given all clear. I had my routine mammogram last week & mentioned pain to the nurse & she snapped at me that 'it means nothing & is being off the tick list of symptoms now'. I was surprised (at both rhe info & her attitude!). Glad you are OK x

Well she's talking absolute bollocks and quite honestly I'd speak to PALS about that. For years it was said that tumours don't cause pain. I've come across so many women during my journey where it was the first symptom and I am clear with that message to anybody who has the same. Sorry you went through that but I am glad you're clear!

Thank you for all replies I think from what has been said I will definitely get things checked and might try the evening primrose too.
Hope you are ok now MrsC.
And it's attitudes like the nurse you saw mediannewbie that puts a lot of us off getting checked!
