Colposcopy waiting times

I had a smear test last week and mentioned to the nurse that I had experienced bleeding during sex.
I also had bleeding during the smear and as a result the nurse called the gp in.
They said that they suspect that I have a cervical ectropian and said that I should call for my results after 7 days as they would be able to fast track due to the bleeding .

Fast forward to Wednesday, and I called the gp surgery only to be told that it had not been fast tracked, and could take up to 6 weeks. I emailed via the nhs app to query this and received a call back within an hour. I was told they had phoned the lab but they would not give the result over the phone. I was told again that it could be up to another 5 weeks, and the gp said that she hadn't said she would fast track and had no idea where I got that idea from. I actually double checked on the day that I should call after a week, so I have no idea why she is saying this didn't happen.

I am now wondering what the waiting time is likely to be for the colposcopy after the smear test results come back?

I am concerned about the change of mind and the delay. This is partly because I haven't had a smear test for 10 years due to a massive fear of all things medical. I am 49.

In 2013 my 16 year old son was given a non urgent referral for a lump on his ankle which eventually resulted in a cancer diagnosis.
He passed away 5 years later after a below knee amputation, followed by the same leg being amputated above the knee. 3 remissions and relapses and chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the side effects that go with this.

On the day of the smear the gp said she didn't think it was cancer but couldn't be sure, and the ectropian looks extensive. She said it needs cauterising.

Has anyone gone down the private route in this situation?
I am assuming that if I took out a private health insurance policy now that I would not be covered for this?

Any advice much appreciated.

I waited 4 months (was told 2) but a relative only waited a week as was pushed through as urgent. Do keep pushing, it makes me really angry that these things are not taken more seriously. I have had issues with bleeding for years now and now the result is an urgent hysterectomy.

Really sorry to hear you are having to go through that.
I have now been referred and have a phone consultation on Thurs to discuss what happens next.
