Slightly raised CA125

Nurse Practitioner ordered CA125 and I had it done while on my period. It’s come back slightly raised at 48, so I’ m kicking myself, should have waited a week. Nurse is now all in a panic and has made a 2WW referral which I’m cancelling today as I want another ultrasound and repeat bloods doing first. Waiting another week or two isn’t going to change anything and I’m happy to wait. I’ve had two clear scans in the past two months, which nurse wasn’t aware of despite me telling her twice and being clearly documented in my notes. The protocol for raised CA125 is to refer for urgent ultrasound scan and only refer to gynaecologist is the scan is abnormal. My question is, has anyone else gone through something similar and what did the gynaecologist do and why?

Hey I had this blood test about 4 yrs ago I went to the doctors cause I said I felt bloated I have IBS straight away she sent me the CA125 mine came back slightly raised at 45 they sent me for a scan on my ovaries and all was clear and I had just finished my period the gyno said that’s proberly why it’s raised a little so it could also be from a cyst and hormones I wouldn’t worry to much about it it’s only slightly raised like you say you just finished your period and previous scans were clear I didn’t need to go back or have repeat bloods done .

Thank you so much, really helpful. I’ll phone today and ask for another scan and repeat bloods. I’d sooner give the hospital appointment to someone who actually needs it.

Just had a call back, nurse won’t order a scan or repeat the blood test so I’ve cancelled hospital referral and booked my own scan. If that’s fine she can shove off. Really annoyed with her, she wouldn’t even speak to me, she passed a message via receptionist.

Now you just wait to see what’s going on but I think it’s either a small cyst or when you just finished you period which caused it to be slightly raised ….

my daughter has just been for this blood test she’s only 21 but recently been diagnosed with PCOS she went for a scan and it showed small cysts on her right ovary so we’re expecting it to be slightly raised because of her condition let me know how you get on x

Had two scans in past two months so definitely no cyst there. What are they doing next for your daughter?

Nothing because she has regular periods and on the scan it showed she ovulated on the ovary where she had the cysts unless her periods stop they will do something but atm nothing we are waiting for her results from the CA125 should hear tomorrow hopefully and if it’s slightly raised it’s because of the cysts …
