I am hoping someone can advise how I can help my mum. She has osteoperosis and is taking tablets for it - I don't know the name but its the one where you have to sit or stand for a certain amount of time after taking. She went to the GP a few months ago about increasing pain in her shoulders and neck. She's been told her vertebrae are crumbly and are causing nerve damage. She's been referred urgently to a neurologist but two months later when she rang was told she hadn't been trialed yet.
She's only 64 so I'm very worried she could end up living a long time with nerve damage and limited mobility if its allowed to progress. But I feel totally clueless and no idea how to advocate for her or advise. Does anyone know anything about this? Is there anything she should be doing differently lifestyle wise? Should she be having any ongoing monitoring of the osteoperosis like bone scans? Would it be a standard neurologist she would see - I'm happy to try paying to see one privately if that cuts the wait. I could also pay for her to see someone privately about the osteoperosis more generally, does anyone know what type of doctor it would be??
I'm not mega rich but if I can pay now to help keep her mobile and able for longer I'm sure that would be money we'll spent!
