Swollen collarbone and lymph nodes - symptoms of lymphoma?

Hi just looking to see if anyone had similar symptoms and if so their diagnosis?

I have had swelling below my collarbone for a few months so went to the doctors and she found 2 lumps in my breast and was concerned with 2 swollen lymph glands in my neck (i’ve had these for months never thought anything of them). I was sent for 2 week referral had ultrasound on breast and was told its normal breast tissue and lumps in my neck are reactive nodes.

I went out for drinks on my birthday and the next morning my collarbone was so swollen and really painful to touch. Its been 2 weeks since the scans and I now have various swollen lymph nodes in my neck, above my collarbone, in my groin and my collarbone has basically disappeared under the swelling. I also have a squishy lump on the front of my shoulder. I’ve lost 7lbs in 2 weeks but not sure if that is due to stress and worrying. I’ve requested a blood test to rule anything out and am trying to get a doctors appointment. Doctors have been very dismissive of my concerns due to my age (28) and being relatively healthy.

I know shouldn’t google but I’m so worried as my symptoms point to lymphoma however I haven’t had any of the common symptoms (night sweats, itchy skin).

I had a doctors appointment and was urgently referred to haematologist, due to my symptoms she didn’t want to wait for blood test results and was concerned. I now have a large swelling/lump on my cheek. Both of my cheekbones and jaw are really painful, it feels like something is weighing down on them. I have found a few lumps on the shins of my legs. I also have chest pains and keep getting cramp in legs and arms. My appointment this is Tuesday. I have since had my bloods back and have slightly low neutrophils at 1.7. Really worried.

Wondering what to expect at a haematologist appointment?

Glandular fever?

MissSmiley · 12/02/2024 10:37

What do the lumps on your legs look like? Are they red? Can you show us a pic?

Moier · 12/02/2024 10:49

All my lymph nodes on my body.. neck/ armpits/ groin etc all swell and hurt when I'm fighting some kind of infection..
I know it's frightening but please try not to worry.
I wish you a great outcome.

@beverlytun thank you for your response, a friend also suggested this. I have just googled and seen that lymph nodes can swell with glandular fever, so that is a possibility

@MissSmiley thank you for your response. These lumps are under the skin and moveable only small so unable to see but all along my shin bone

When you said shins I wondered if it was erthyma nodosum, but doesn't sound like that.
I hope you get some answers soon

@Moier Thank you for responding. I’m trying to keep this in mind and it’s comforting hearing real stories. Thank you

Did they scan your neck as well as breast?

RiRiMum · 12/02/2024 14:53

Just had a call from haematologist who has cancelled my appointment for tomorrow as the doctor says blood test results are ok.

Now back to square one having to try get an appointment with my doctor again which will likely take weeks.

@RiRiMum what was your outcome ? Im similar , ongoing swollen glands for months .

Tulipvase · 03/04/2024 20:24

Probably not relevant at all but I have had swollen lymph nodes under my collar bone, each time I get the flu vaccine. I’ve stopped having it now as it was so uncomfortable. I hope you get to the bottom of it.

Lala2022 · 31/01/2025 18:46

@Lkakpk did anything come of this for you? I’ve had multiple swollen lymph nodes all over body for months too!

Lkakpk · 01/03/2025 09:58

@Lala2022 nope still same ! what about you ?

Lala2022 · 01/03/2025 11:57

@Lkakpk still the same. My first popped up in underarms and doctors said probably due to breastfeeding. Still feeding 9 month old. But the lymph nodes have since popped up in groin, and throat as well.I have had some odd thyroid readings as well and definite symptoms of thyroid stuff going on but apparently my levels aren’t that crazy so shouldn’t really be causing symptoms 🤷‍♀️

Lkakpk · 02/03/2025 00:06

@Lala2022 do you have any other symptoms ?

Lala2022 · 02/03/2025 02:55

Crazy hair loss. Like weeks of weight loss then plateaus which makes me think that’s related to thyroid. Exhaustion and fatigue but I’ve just gone back to teaching with a 2.5yr old and 9 mth old 😂. How bout you?

I was treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma 11 years ago. The only symptom I had was a swollen lymph node above my collar bone. I know that night sweats, weight loss, itchy skin and rarely pain on drinking alcohol can be symptoms of HL too. I'm not a medical professional and I have no idea what your symptoms are being caused by but I did want to add that having normal blood test results doesn't rule out lymphoma.

When I initially went to the GP they took a blood test, which also included screening for glandular fever. It was negative for glandular fever and the only abnormal result was ESR. I was referred to ENT, had a fine needle biopsy, which was inconclusive but highly suggestive of abnormal cells, referred to ultrasound where they took a bigger biopsy and eventually a haematology appointment where I was diagnosed. I was only 31.

Most of the time it's not cancer but I do think that if you feel that you're being fobbed off, the diagnosis feels wrong or you've got a gut feeling please do go back to your GP, speak to a different GP if possible and keep pushing until you get answers that make sense or are referred to a relevant specialist.
