Awful temper during ovulation

Hi all, first time starting a thread just hoping someone else has maybe experienced this or knows what the cause is. But for the last 4-5 months I’ve noticed I have a really short fuse, snapping, just generally really horrible during ovulation (luckily I’m not trying to conceive as my DH wouldn’t come near me and vice versa). I’ve started getting really bad heartburn for 2-3 days as well. Then during my period I’m all sunshine and rainbows, no mood swings or anything. As if the hormones have switched places.

I’m 43, definitely not pregnant (impossible, not had sex-DH health issue).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Agnus Castus is meant to be good for moodiness / PMS
An alternative may be Mirena coil
Good luck!

Conversely, the mirena coil turned me into a raging person most of the time. I got it out as soon as I could, it was unbearable. I think I the ovulation thing could be linked to perimenopause (but I am no expert)..

I've been cycle tracking and noticed that I get insomnia at ovulation too, like a total restless anxiety that keeps me up. I've read about oestrogen dominance but there doesn't seem to be a consensus about whether it's real or what to do about it. Im 42.

I had something like this in early perimenopause. I was wired and ratty at ovulation, then there would be a brief lull, then pms, then I'd be fine within a couple of hours of my period arriving. After a couple of years of that (and a lot of other symptoms) I started hrt, which levelled things out.

Thank you so much for your replies.

@FloofCloud I actually tried used Agnus Castus years ago to regulate my periods when ttc. I’ll give that a go again as my periods are now every 24 days so maybe it will lengthen my cycle and help my mood.

Thanks again.
