Can wellwoman vitamins delay your period?

I started the vitamins on Jan 1st. Last period ended in early January.

Now I'm sitting here drumming my fingers waiting for the next one.

I'm mid 30s and not on contraception (we use condoms and have not had any accidents with them, but I know they're not 100% all the time). Previous periods have always been regular give or take a couple of days. But never this late.

It felt like it's about to start last Sunday/Monday - headache, period poops (sorry tmi), random huge hormonal spot on my chin. But then nothing happened and I feel normal. I already have children and I don't feel like I did when I was pregnant with them - boobs aren't hurting.

I have taken 3 pregnancy tests, all negative (BUT they were expired tests I had in the cupboard, so I can't trust them and I'm waiting for new ones to be delivered - hopefully today).

In the meantime, while I wait... could it be the vitamins?

Yes, this did happen to me! When I first started taking no them my next period was about two weeks late but then everything balanced out again. I seem to remember the information leaflet that came with them said the vitamins do not cause a period delay but that many women have observed that it happens.

IrisVonEverec · 27/01/2024 16:31

Thank you - doesn't that sound like such a cop out? "It doesn't happen. We know these women over here said it does, but we won't bother looking into that..."

Still waiting for my new tests to arrive. Filling my time by alternately searching up vasectomy info for dh and what baby stuff is like nowadays (haven't looked at anything in over a decade... where did all the bright colours go?)

Ok... not expired test is also negative. Just a waiting game then!

This happened to me. Very regular cycle completely knocked out by pregnant conception vits. It says on the box that this may happen and to “seek medical advice” if it does. I spoke to my gp who more or less didn’t believe me. She had never come across it before and could think of no reason why it might happen. she recommended I take folic acid (she should also have recommended I took vitamin d).

anyhow I got pregnant a couple of months later although miscarried at 12 weeks.

I'm pregnant again now and no ideas what to do regarding vitamins.

has this happened to anyone else. What did you do in pregnancy?

NewKidOnTheBlock99 · 01/02/2024 22:22

The same thing happened to me @Astasollilja very regular cycles and then started taking the conception vitamins and really messed it up! I found loads of threads and comments on here which said the same. I used the seven seas multivitamin throughout my pregnancy, a long with omega 3 and was fine - would also consider wild nutrition as they seem quite reputable but a bit more expensive! Congratulations and good luck :)

did your period come? I started taking wellwoman original daily a few months ago as I heard EPO helped regulate periods and I noticed mine was starting to get more irregular than usual (namely a lot shorter sometimes but not always). I'm also in my mid 30s. Previous 2 cycles seemed to go back to their usual 28/29 days but I'm now on day 31. Dont remember it being this late for many years. Have had some dark spotting and what feels like mild cramps but then it stops. Partner and I aren't in a position to conceive right now so I'm a bit scared though two ultra early clearblue tests taken yesterday and today were negative, so thats why I'm thinking it could be the epo.

IrisVonEverec · 04/02/2024 18:48

@me451 it came yesterday BUT I stopped taking the vitamins on Feb 1st (as an experiment to see if it would kickstart my period and it seems to have worked - 2/3 days of no vitamins and period arrived!)

Now that I know it's a potential side effect, I'll start taking the vitamins again when my period ends and see what happens. I don't mind it lengthening my cycle because I'm not trying to conceive and my usual 24 day cycle is too short imo! It's just helpful to be aware so I can keep track and ensure I'm not accidentally pregnant!!!

Hi,
just come across this thread.
I also started the well woman original vitamins 11th Jan.
Normally very, very regular periods; every 23 days. I’m now 8 days late, 2 x negative pregnancy test, husband also had vasectomy so panicking it hadn’t worked.
I think it could be these vitamins. Have emailed vitabiotics on [email protected]
for advice.
Feeling better in myself but concerned with lack of period! 😬Think we all need to raise this issue.

NarnianQueen · 31/01/2025 23:52

It sounds like one of those things that everyone knows about but the "medical professionals" don't believe it because it's women doing the reporting!

I'm intrigued to know what mechanism could cause them to delay the period though! Is it some sort of re-balancing of the hormones which takes a while to sort itself out?

HFO83 · 09/02/2025 22:13

So after waiting for 16 days for my period, I stopped taking the vitamins for 3 days and my period came….hmmm coincidence or not? GP said it’s likely to make periods more regular. Vitabiotics said ‘There is no research evidence that we are aware of to show that a nutritional vitamin supplement at these levels could cause changes in the monthly cycle.’ I felt so good on them so have no idea what to do now!

What on earth is in them?

HFO83 · 10/02/2025 09:02

Well it’s very odd! My GP said there wouldn’t be levels high enough to effect things that much but weird how some of us have same symptoms.
