Day four of what I thought was a heavy and particularly heavy period. My periods are usually painful and heavy the first day since kids. Bleeding stopped yesterday but then this morning I flooded and after sitting on the toilet felt something'fall out'

It is much larger than a 50p II have taken a picture next to a super plus extra tampon and when prodded with an unused tampon it was like a meaty texture so not a clot of blood. What could this be?

I have attached photo

Chunk of lining.

FadedRed · 21/01/2024 13:08

Look up ‘endometrial cast, Op. Looks alarming, but not uncommon.

Nejnej · 21/01/2024 13:08

Could be a decidual cast?

It wasn't blood it wouldn't break up at all

Clotted blood is very thick and jelly like, it doesn't break up easily at all. It can even be spongy in texture. Looks like a huge clot to me.

I'm used to getting clots and this felt very different but I didn't know that so thank you

Could it be a miscarriage?

Could it be a miscarriage?

It doesn't look like it

Looks like a clot to me. I wouldn’t worry about it but see your GP if you’re concerned.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 21/01/2024 17:07

Looks like a clot. Most of my period leaves my body in gross, slimy clumps...

I've passed two decidual casts and they were pale, fleshy and literally the shape of my uterus. Fascinating and horrific in equal mesaure.

VikingLady · 21/01/2024 17:09

Not a miscarriage, it's a chunk of lining. It happens sometimes - I've had some huge ones! Usually on particularly heavy months. On occasion I'll have evil period pains, then a chunk like that will pass through and the pain immediately goes.

Shf · 21/01/2024 17:13

Horrible but yes, more likely to be lining. I once passed something horrifically large during a very heavy period. Worth mentioning to the GP if you ever see them about periods. I say a gynaecologist a while ago about heavy periods and they asked if I ever had clots bigger than a 50p, I actually laughed at him as that was so common - didn’t realise it wasn’t!

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 21/01/2024 17:17

A clot. I was terrified the first time i experienced them, and were sure they were “meaty” as you say, but that’s just how clots are. If blood sits inside you for a while this is how it comes out.

fuckmyuteruslining · 21/01/2024 17:23

With heavy periods you could probably benefit from a scan to see just how thick the lining is. Flooding is not normal and can be helped.

Kizzy192 · 21/01/2024 17:24

If you have any concerns you could have been pregnant I would take a test - it might still come up positive. To be honest, it does look like some of my miscarriages so if I were you I'd get checked out just in case. If you get any signs of infection (fever, chills, etc) get to the hospital.

Missingmyusername · 21/01/2024 17:25

I’ve had similar, felt a bit light headed afterward but I am squeamish. It’s a decidual cast, felt like a grape popping out. Grim! But nothing to worry about.

tty · 21/01/2024 18:38

Took a pregnancy test, got a line, so guess it's unlikely it is just a clot. Will call epu tomorrow to see if i need to be checked ir whatever
