Hysterectomy or try and get HRT dose right? Help me decided.

I have been bleeding for what seems like years. It is years. Since 2021. I have, since March 2021 only had 3 or 4 occasions of not bleeding every 2 weeks. A 14 days cycle if I am lucky. Often that would be 12 days bleeding (5 heavy) and then 2-3 days off, then starting all over again. So probably, bleeding for 85% of the time. For 3 years.

July 22 tried for an ablation - but odd shaped uterus means it is a no go. Similarly mirenas either cannot be fitted or are spontaneously expelled.

I have (driven by me, not the GP or Gynae I have seen) been trying to see if tweaking my HRT dose would help. No avail so far - though higher progesterone has helped ease things a bit the last few months.

Next stop is another gynae appt, for discussion about a hysterectomy.

It seems sensible and logical. But I am so very, very reluctant.

Can you give me any positive stories about hysterectomies? Should I just go for it? Am I mad to try and get the medicinal balance right - or should I just let them chop the bleeding fuckery thing out of me.

My total hysterectomy was life changing. I was mid 40’s and I had to beg for mine. Happiest day walking down to theatre, I think they thought I was a bit odd, but I had been suffering for so many years. It’s such a relief, and I haven’t had any adverse affects tbh.
My HRT works well so it was, all in all, a good decision for me.

My hysterectomy has changed my life. I was in pain and bleeding constantly until I had it, and now I feel such freedom as I don't have to let periods and pain rule my life. The recover was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be, to be honest the wait was the worst bit

I'm still trying to get my HRT right (as I went into surgical menopause) but I was peri anyway so am just dealing with the same symptoms

Try the hysterectomy sisters group on Facebook, it's really supportive and full of people who are going through the same worry (or are out the other side)

I changed my hrt to continous and has helped after few months. Also please get your thyroid checked as an underactive can create havoc with periods. Ask for antibodies test. Hope this helps somewhat.
