Hi,

If anyone has experienced anything like this please let me know. I can’t talk to anyone about it in real life as I don’t want to worry them.

Im 44 been on HRT for a few years (at least 3+) at the start I had some really heavy bleeds and was referred for an ultrasound which was all within normal. The bleeding settled and things have been pretty good since. That is until November.

I started my period at the end of November and it was so so heavy, I have only had 4 period free days up until last week. I’ve also noticed excruciating mid/lower back pain then I’ll flood a maxi pad straight after.

Went to see my gp she referred me for the ultrasound I had today. The bleeding stopped last week as it would have done from the progesterone bleed. I really thought they’d say all was good and it was just a blip. The lovely lady who conducted the scan said I need to be referred and I’m to contact my gp tomorrow to ensure it is done.

On my scan my uterine lining is much thicker than it should be for this point in my cycle. My DM was diagnosed with cancer and died a little bit older than I am now. I’m terrified but trying to be very stoic as I don’t know anything just yet.

Any helpful comments gratefully received

@BatshitCrazyWoman sorry to hear you’re still struggling even after going through a removal. I hope things calm down for you soon.

@newyeardelurker resting last night and today, I’m medically retired so no work to rush back too. I’ve had period type pain today which I was told could last a few days or few weeks. Hoping you hear back soon.

@Whattheflipflap thank you, just trying to forget that I’m waiting on results. I can’t change them so no point worrying too much (much easier said than done)

@iamyourequal i completely understand how you felt. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in hospital which I guess normalises the surgical set up. As for diagnosis I think it’ll be after the polyps and lining biopsy results are back.
Please be kind to yourself, it’s not easy walking in to something that you have no idea what they will do.
Just as reassurance for after your procedure I’ve still had some bleeding and period type pain. They said this may last a few days or couple of weeks. I unfortunately have a chronic pain condition which means my body doesn’t always heal as normal. I was fine to get up and walk afterwards, but was very glad to get home and curl up with a heat pad last night and had a very gentle day today. The nurse also said that it depends on the individual, she had a lady who’d had 6 children that couldn’t cope with the pain and others that barely feel anything. It’s been ok and manageable with paracetamol and mefenamic acid. Wishing you the very best and do let us know how you get on.

Thank you all for your comments and encouragement, I’ve felt rather alone in real life through all of this so really appreciate every comment and well wish on here.

Thank you

Any updates from anyone?

I’ve chased my results today as still hadn’t heard a thing, they are still waiting for them to come back from the lab. I’m keeping everything crossed I’ll hear by the start of next week…

Best of luck @Kattekittt you will surely get them this week? That’s def over your 10 days. I am still awaiting appointment letter for my hysteroscopy & biopsy under GA, and my appointment for the better quality ultrasound they are going to do (I was advised I’d get an MRI but this was knocked back as the scanning dept have higher priorities). I have had a couple of weeks with barely any symptoms other than daily mildly sore uterus / pelvic area. I’ve started bleeding today so I will see how it goes. Do
remember to post your updates everyone!

newyeardelurker · 21/02/2024 20:20

Hi @Kattekittt @iamyourequal I’m still waiting for results too - I was told 2 to 6 weeks and it’s coming up to 5 now. I’ve gone in and out of feeling stressed about it, I’m hoping the MRI must have been clear and it’s all sat in a non urgent pile. I’ve no symptoms at the moment though as no period, so that helps reduce worry. Hope you get your results / appointment through soon.

I am 2 years through menopause, not on HRT, had spotting. But then a stomach ache and bloating (had stomach ache and bloating since mid Jan). GP referred me as urgent cancer referral. Backlog, was sent to a cottage hospital not near me, on a Sunday, with a consultant drafted in from another part of the country. Tried to give me a procedure but without GA, not happening. Sent for MRI last week, and bloods a bit earlier. Not heard anything yet. Still bloated and now pain in left hip and top of left thigh. Breasts are achy too. In a fair amount of discomfort. I am absolutely bricking it. I am thinking the worse. I have been quite positive up to now but everyday I feel worse. Went into the office and had to stand on the train due to discomfort plus undid my trousers at work.

Women really drew the short straw in life. Just endless hormonal shit.

whenemmafallsinlove · 21/02/2024 21:57

My results were 6 weeks when I had a perimenopausal hysteroscopy. My lining was 3 bloody cm! But all fine. Normal pathology. Got a mirena and that sorted the bleeding. Like you I feared the worst. Especially with a lining like that. I was fully prepared for needing a hysterectomy. Endometrial cancer is usually detected early and very successfully treated. Pre menopause it's much harder to know the significance of a thick lining. My very lovely nurse said it looked thick but ok and she was right.

iamyourequal · 22/02/2024 20:22

Best of luck @newyeardelurker One more week of wait for you, bet you are truly fed up waiting!

iamyourequal · 22/02/2024 20:29

@AzureBlue99 Please try not to worry. I know it’s really hard. Do you have another date to get the procedure (I’m assist was a hysteroscopy & biopsy?) done under GA?

iamyourequal · 22/02/2024 20:32

Crikey @whenemmafallsinlove I read your post and thought ‘3mm is nothing’ Then I saw it was cm! My goodness, that is (honestly) the thickest lining I’ve heard of, and I’ve been wallowing on many of these forums in the last few months. Glad to hear all is fine with you!

AzureBlue99 · 23/02/2024 08:25

@iamyourequal Not heard anything since the scan.

whenemmafallsinlove · 23/02/2024 10:57

@iamyourequal yeah I know I was very much FFS when I heard what it was. Just goes to show in pre-menopause you really can't deduce anything from a measurement except further investigation needed!

Lovemusic82 · 24/02/2024 16:49

I am going through similar but my hysteroscopy was unsuccessful last week on getting a biopsy and they couldn’t get into my uterus.I’m now booked in for an urgent hysterectomy. I have a scan booked next week (private) as I haven’t been offered one on the NHS. My last scan (almost a year ago) showed nothing suspicious other than a small cyst. I was examined last week and told my uterus is very large (measuring at 14 weeks). I’m hoping a scan will give me some kind of idea what I’m dealing with but understand that biopsy is the only way to detect cancer. Waiting for smear test result which they managed to do.

Kattekittt · 01/03/2024 18:22

I’ve got my results and feel very lucky. All came back ok, the nurse thinks that the removal of the polyps should settle things back down. Need to wait two cycles to see. The amount of bleeding and clots has already reduced. There was a non cancerous issue with my uterus lining but I can’t recall, once I get a letter to confirm everything I’ll know more.

I count myself as very lucky. I’m just so sorry there are so many others going through the whole thing.

Thanks so much for all the shared experiences and good wishes, this thread has really helped x

@Kattekittt I’m really pleased for you that’s great news, you must be so relieved

still waiting for results here 😕

Kattekittt · 02/03/2024 11:34

@newyeardelurker thank you, please do let us know how you get on, sending you lots positive thoughts, it’s a tough wait. Keeping everything crossed for you

OP posts:
newyeardelurker · 05/03/2024 18:07

Well I’m really pleased to say I got my results and all are clear, no pre-cancerous cells, nothing concerning on the mri, which is a huge relief.

Frustratingly they were sent to my gp weeks ago, and when I’d called gynae previously they wouldn’t even check. So I emailed today and got a copy of the letter almost immediately.

i’ve still got heavy bleeding and fibroids but I can deal with those.

thanks for the support on this thread it really helped

Kattekittt · 05/03/2024 21:27

@newyeardelurker so so pleased for you, thanks for all your support x

I'm glad you both had the all clear. I'm still bleeding (hysteroscopy was on 10 January) 🙄 I'm arranging to have the Mirena removed as soon as I can, as it obviously doesn't agree with me. I've had thrush twice (apparently this is an thing for some women who have the Mirena) and I haven't slept more than 4 or 5 hours a night since it was fitted. And I've cried pretty much every day, I feel really low.

Will be glad when it's gone. It sucks being a woman 😔

Kattekittt · 06/03/2024 12:58

@BatshitCrazyWoman oh no poor you! They offered me a mirena and I declined due to previous issues with one so I can empathise somewhat.

It will get better, it’s messing with your hormones. Hope you manage to get an appointment to get some help with it soon x

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/03/2024 13:31

Thank you @Kattekittt

I know some women love the Mirena, but it's not been great for me!
