What's the standard investigation procedure?

I've got a doctors appoint later today and was wondering what sort of investigating/potential procedures might be given?

Symptoms are:
Super irregular periods - generally last approx 15 days with a small break and then light bleeding on and off for up to a week

Heavy periods - if I know I'm not going to have access to a bathroom I have to use a tampon, pad and period underwear so I don't leak

Occasional pain during intercourse

Recent unexplained weight gain and bloating

Unsure if related or not, but I also very rarely have solid stools and as a general rule when I have to go, it's an immediate and urgent need.

This has been ongoing since November 2022.

No hormonal contraception but have had a copper coil since October 2021.

Any reassurance or idea of what might be said/happen next would be massively appreciated.

I went to the GP for similar and they sent me for an ultrasound, then based on the results of that have referred me to a gynaecologist. The sonographer said I will probably need an MRI due to what was on the ultrasound. Are you up to date with your smear tests? If not perhaps they could send you for a colposcopy as well.

And possibly check your iron levels and hormone levels.

Thank you 😊

Smears up to date thankfully. But it did come back with HPV...

Do you mind me asking how long it took you to get the ultrasound?

I saw my GP re one episode of bleeding between periods. After a swab showed no infection she referred me for an ultrasound- one working day later I got a call from the hospital offering me an apt the next day. Anything unusual is flagged as urgent and then depending on what they find it leads to next steps and how urgent it is
