Hi I'm 49 and very perimenopausal, periods every 26 days approx. Currently having v heavy period, passing large clots and flooding. See pic, 50p coin for size comparison.
Recently had pelvic ultrasound and transvaginal, both completely normal thank God.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime to help with this? Feel dreadful tbh.
Thanks!

I've had this in the past. Mine was actually caused by hrt, basically shedding the lining of my womb in one go. I would see your doctor for tranexamic acid which reduces bleeding. I ended up anaemic and on iron tablets for a few months so probably a good idea to get your bloods checked.

Oh and also mefenamic acid for the pain, used to be called ponstan, it's stronger than ibuprofen.

Tranexamic acid stopped this completely for me.
Life time of light manageable periods, and they suddenly became horrendously heavy and about a 15 -20 day cycle. After about 6 months of using TA periods became really light and further apart, and now, fingers crossed have stopped…

Thanks all, I'll see my GP next week and ask for tranexamic acid.

If its like my GP their first suggestion will be the mirena coil, which I wasn’t keen on, but i know lots of women get on brilliantly with…the coil can also be the progesterone part of HRT if thats something you are considering.

I had the Mirena after I had my DD years ago, loved it, periods stopped almost immediately. Then after I had DS I had another one fitted but I bled constantly and then it came out by itself. Dh had the snip after that 😁
