Painful spots along knickers line

Where the leg holes are and where the leg meets the groin. It’s because of friction I think but I get loads of very painful cysts/boils of varying sizes along my knicker line if my pants are too tight. The thing is the actual knickers fit but it just seems any pressure round that area causes it. I can’t shave either as I break out. Anyone else? Any magic knicker recommendations if so?

I'm sensitive to elastic and have to pick my knickers very carefully! I find the Calvin Klein ones with the wide elasticated band at the top are great, I usually don't have any issues with them. Good luck knicker hunting!

Cantdoitagain1 · 10/01/2024 20:33

Are you a runner or cyclist and wearing knickers under your clothes?

StamppotAndGravy · 10/01/2024 20:59

I get this, but for me it's if knickers aren't washed well enough or I haven't showered soon enough after going for a run. I find cotton thongs or old disgusting grey baggy knickers where the elastic is shot to be the best options.

crazyaginglady · 10/01/2024 21:06

@Cantdoitagain1 Not a runner, I do cycle but this is mostly an issue if I’ve been sitting for long period and the elastic is pressing against my skin.

@LaLaLaWhoopsieDaisy thanks I’ll check those out.

I had this and found out it was foliculitus and Sudocrem got rid of it and Ceravee moisturiser completely smoothed out the skin on my bum.
Ive recently started buying Stripe and Stare knickers online and they’re so soft and don’t aggravate my skin at all so I’d really recommend them.

Novelby55 · 10/01/2024 21:08

Get some French knickers and see if this helps.

Singleandproud · 10/01/2024 21:10

M&S boyshorts have longer legs so no elastic in that area to rub. It'll give your skin time to heal even if not a permanent change to that style.

DistractMe · 10/01/2024 21:17

This happened to me, so I threw out all my M&s elasticated knickers and bought some from Boody and Bella Bodies. Problem went away.

WonderingWanda · 10/01/2024 21:18

Cotton traders do some seam free knickers that helped me with irritation along the knicker line.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/01/2024 21:25

Is it hydredanitis?

Boxer shorts are meant to be the best.

LaLaLaWhoopsieDaisy · 10/01/2024 21:29

The problem with the seam free ones is I find they go up my bum so aren't comfortable! I guess it depends on body shape, I've always had a big bum even when at my skinniest!

These are the Calvin Klein knickers I mentioned, they do a boxer style too. The name is Modern Cotton.

Allergy to the elastic.
I can't wear the bras with the 'grippy strip' on them for the same reason.

ApresMoiLaDeluge · 10/01/2024 21:43

I had similar symptoms and the GP thought it was hydradenitis and prescribed a topical antibiotic which helped. I switched to boxer-style knickers too, which made a big difference to the discomfort of it. It went away quite quickly after that. I wondered if it was triggered by hormonal changes as I had my baby shortly before it started. Hope it clears up for you!

Apparently you should wash the area with head and shoulders?!

Saying this as I have the same problem and saw this on SM. Have been meaning to try :)

Scarletttulips · 10/01/2024 21:46

Any baby bum cream works to smooth

Papillon23 · 10/01/2024 21:47

I find high legs help as the leg holes are bigger!

crazyaginglady · 12/01/2024 07:14

Wow all amazing tips thanks so much. Hadn’t heard of much of this stuff. We have sudden and head and shoulders so I’ll get started! Currently wincing with a big painful lump so I’ll be on the laptop tonight buying creams and knickers.

You’re all amazing.
