Whenever you read online it states that period blood is old lining coming out. However, is a period always just "old lining" or is it also "new blood"? The reason I ask is two observations:

at the end of a period my period blood is often bright red and not brown, and therefore doesn't look old.

those who are perimenopausal have a lot of bleeding and flooding, often in quick succession/short cycles which cannot all be lining as it wouldn't have the chance to build up to that degree.
