Turns out I have endometriosis

Hi all,

After 22 years of going to the Dr with pelvic pain, it turns out I have endometriosis, endometrioma and lesions. I now need to be referred to the gynaecologist which I was told can be up to a 12 month wait.

Not going to lie, I burst out crying when I was told. I havent been able to have intercourse for years due to the pain it caused. I remember when I was in my late teens I had a scan and was told there was something there (but not told what) and I remember asking if I would be able to have children, I was told there was no clear answer and wouldn't know until I started trying to convince. I have had children with no fertility issues.

But I'm absolutely baffled why I have not been told before now. I have been hospitalised multiple times due to this and have had previous scans so I don't understand why the GP has never mentioned this the amount of times I have been in with this pain.

I’m so sorry and am appalled on your behalf, even more so because I am in the same position right now.

I’m 50, been under the same gynae depart since I was in my late 20’s. Also under gastro for years as I’ve had digestive issues for 25+ years.

My sister was diagnosed with endo at the age of 43, 5 years ago. They thought she had ovarian cancer, the tumour tuned out to be endometriosis.
I’ve constantly asked the gynaecologists if I may have endo too as it can run in families but always greeted with shrugs to my questions.

Last year I had a uterine ablation as I was flooding, that has left me in more pain than ever so in November I asked for a MRI to check. Turns out I have deep endometriosis and adenomyosis. I now have to wait to see the local endo team which apparently is a long wait. I am so so angry.

I really do feel your pain.

Women are so often medically gas lit especially when it comes to gynae issues. I was often told most of my issues (especially the gut ones) we’re all in my head/caused by anxiety and all fixed with some antidepressants and a few sessions of CBT. My gynaecologist now tells me that my digestive problems are most likely down to my gynae issues ffs!

So many years have been wasted.
