Low Iron

I have been struggling with low iron since I had my second child just over a year and a half ago. My iron was absolutely fine during pregnancy and during my postpartum recovery but has dwindled since. My GP keeps giving me iron tablets for a few months which helps but then once they run out it drop again. They don't seem to be at all interested in finding out why my iron is low. I eat plenty red meat and greens and don't have periods due to the mirena coil. I've never had this issue before.
I've gone and got some iron tablets over the counter to tide me over for now but I can't surely be expected to take them forever more?
Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it that I can address?
The fatigue and dizziness is awful.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Apparently ferritin stores get used up by an underactive thyroid.

I had a full blood count done but J don't believe that included a thyroid check. I'll certainly get one done, I knew it had a similar tiredness feeling but had no idea it affected iron levels. Thank you

Did you get to the bottom of this OP? I’m in a very similar position! The dizziness is driving me mad xxx

Do you drink much tea/coffee? Coffee especially gets in the way of iron absorption.
Currently trying to get into the habit of a 9am ish one instead of having it with breakfast.

@Newunm im in a habit of drinking tea instead of water (not a coffee drinker) so I’m trying to break that habit. Had no idea it prevented you from absorbing iron so that’s definitely and incentive to break the habit. Thank you for the tip!

@HallidayJones6779 I didn't really, no. More iron tablets (6 month course rather than 3 months) and then my levels just seemed to keep up on their own. I didn't change anything else but am back to donating blood so my levels are checked quite regularly. It must have just taken a while to get back to normal.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
