Cervical cancer scare - advice please?

Hi all,

When I was 25 I had abnormal cell changes in my cervix, it was actually my first smear and I ended up having the LETZ treatment I think it’s called where the cells are burnt away.
I had a follow up smear and was all clear.
They have now changed how they do smear tests in the UK, they don’t test for abnormal cells they test for the presence of HPV. My smear test last year was clear of HPV so my cells weren’t checked.

Im now 33 and I’ve noticed over the last 6 months I’ve been spotting between periods around ovulation time, I haven’t thought much of it but in the last 3 or so months my discharge has changed to be yellow/orange and has increased quite a lot so I need to wear a pad.
This week I’ve started bleeding at ovulation time again but it’s more like a light period rather than spotting and I’m so scared it could be cervical cancer 😭 prior to this week my discharge has been orange/pink all month and I’ve been getting slight cramps but not full on period cramps.

Has anyone else had these symptoms and it turned out to be nothing serious?
I’m a single mum to 3 children and I can’t bare the thought of leaving them without me and causing them trauma.

Sorry, just to add the doctor wants me to book in for an appointment to be swabbed so I’m doing that on Monday. I also have no pain during/after sex.

It could be many things other than cancer, but any abnormal discharge/bleeding needs to be checked out, the fact that you are bleeding around ovulation timing could mean that it’s something to do with your ovaries.

Sounds more like an STI than anything, but get it checked. I've had cervical cancer, the symptoms were incredibly slight and nothing like you've described.

If you do have it you will be well looked after, just keep taking the next step.

I’ve had a biopsy taken at the hospital today, results in 2-3 weeks.

Hi hope you’re ok! Did you get to the bottom of the discharge xx

Biopsy was normal 😊 they have said the bleeding is likely caused by hormones and if I go on some kind of hormonal contraception it should settle.

What was the outcome OP? Hope you're OK x

i had a biopsy and it came back clear.

in the end it was suggested by the consultant that it could be my hormones causing the spotting and it actually never happened again after the biopsy.

thank you for asking.

I'm so pleased for you. I'm nearly 41 and having similar issues.
My mind keeps racing to cervical cancer so I have a smear booked in 3 weeks and a doctors appointment next week.
I get pinky brown spotting and mild cramps and not all day etc.

I did the same thing and went straight to worst case scenario but try not to let your mind wander. There are actually so many things it could be.

are you up to date with your smear? If so that’s even more reason not to worry.
